I'm expecting a second child and struggling with name ideas. Not sure of the gender yet but would like something unique that you don't find often. My husband is a botanist which is why we called our daughter Sequoiadendron (Sequoia for short!) and we're looking for something similar that's plant related.
Thanks in advance for the help fellow mums!! :)

*If they identify as male:

Cactus (nn Cacka)

If identifying as female:

Husky I think the post you’ve quoted was somewhat tongue in cheek...

Dandy (dandelion)

Ah, but there is an Archidendron plant, so in keeping with the theme, he could be Archie for short.

Sammi38 · 25/02/2020 11:59

My husbands an engineer we went with Spannerella.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/02/2020 12:00

What is your job OP? I think, instead of picking a name to match Sequoiadendron, you should pick a name that reflects your profession.

I hate it when I have no idea whether the OP that looks like a joke is actually real.

jaspercatx · 25/02/2020 12:00

What about Photosynthesis? or Synthia for short

boats · 25/02/2020 12:00

HuskyloverI congratulations on completely missing the joke.

Miriel · 25/02/2020 12:00

Dandelion for a boy. Although perhaps he'll grow up and change his name to Jaskier.

For a girl? Phalaenopsis. You can call her Phae for short. Grin

"Orchid", from the Latin word "orchis", meaning "bollocks".*

  • True fact, the roots supposedly look like balls.
DontCallMeShitley · 25/02/2020 12:02

Atropa Belladonna, Deadly for short.

Or Ridiculosaparenta

drspouse · 25/02/2020 12:02

I'm so sorry we didn't see this before having our two, as we would definitely have called them Sassy (NN Sas) and Rory (NN R).

CandyApple1995 · 25/02/2020 12:02

I know a little girl called Artemissia and I think that's lovely, she gets Artie for short x

GingerGill · 25/02/2020 12:04

Aster - very pretty flower x

FagAsh · 25/02/2020 12:04

Sativa??

VideographybyLouBloom · 25/02/2020 12:04

You need to go really 'out there' and call him Nigel.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/02/2020 12:07

I don't know, Nigel is probably one of those names that's ripe for a comeback.

Call a baby boy Nigel and next thing you know, they'll either be in a class full of Nigels, or at the very least, that's what all their younger brothers will be called.

corduroyal · 25/02/2020 12:09

I know a sequoia! I think it's nice. Pretty sure she's not got the dendron bit tho

Oak or Fig for boy
Or you could go for Everest because you've already got the biggest tree, might as well do a mountain

HerRoyalFattyness · 25/02/2020 12:10

Neil for a boy.
And Jane for a girl.
