Name for sibling of Sequoiadendron?

I'm expecting a second child and struggling with name ideas. Not sure of the gender yet but would like something unique that you don't find often. My husband is a botanist which is why we called our daughter Sequoiadendron (Sequoia for short!) and we're looking for something similar that's plant related.
Thanks in advance for the help fellow mums!! :)

Daisy is nice. Though she might find it hard growing up in her big sister's shadow.

This thread has cheered me up after lurking on the Coronavirus threads.

Come to think of it, Corona sounds really pretty...

Sorry, that's not much help for you, op.

In all seriousness, I once met a lad called Saguaro. His mum was the first person I ever met wearing "barefoot shoes".

Given the year we live in, I propose...

Betacoronavirus, or Bunyaviridae, Filoviridae, and Flaviviridae... ?
Betty, Boonie, Filo and Flavy for short. What could be better?

I would have thought Haveyoutriedturningitonandoffagain would be a strong contender.

ZaZathecat · 25/02/2020 20:57

It was on our shortlist, pallisers.

Some of the suggestions have me in tears though;

CLITORIA
DIPPY & T-REX
GILLYWEED
SATIVA
DAVE

How about ferngully

ZarkingBell · 25/02/2020 21:04

That's what my husband wanted to call ours as well pallisers and ZaZathecat but I thought having a second one called OfcourseIfuckinghave wouldn't work so well.

ZaZathecat · 25/02/2020 21:06

It's become too common now anyway Zarking, there are 3 in ds's class.

Rosalo · 25/02/2020 21:08

Daffodil

LowbrowVictoriana · 25/02/2020 21:13

Those big, long, scientific/latinate names sound so pretentious though... something friendly with everyday familiarity would be better.

How about Sticky Willy for a boy?

Go dinasaur with Archaeopterix, archie for short or tyrannosaurus, Tyra for short.

Michelleoftheresistance · 25/02/2020 21:20

Actually considering your daughter is named after the largest tree, you could go sideways to avoid competition issues and call this next one Balaenoptera if you wanted the Latin, which is quite pretty, although Bluewhale has its merits just in plain English. Titanosaur might also work.

ZarkingBell · 25/02/2020 21:20

True, ZaZathecat, true. DC2 has two PythonC++ in his class, and nobody ever seems to get the spelling of his name correct. It's so straightforward as well Confused 01000111 01100101 01101110 01101001 01110101 01110011 01000010 01101111 01111001

Manure would be a good one for a boy, would become Man eventually.

Or just plain Cowdung, NN Shit.

DH is a BT engineer, Strowger- exchange (Strowy), Telegraph-pole (Tele) and little Footway-box (Footi) all love their names.
