I have fallen in love with the NN Eddy but don’t like the name Edward.Edison seems like a more modern version And similar name to the name Jackson. I love it but as I’m getting closer to my due date I’m second guessing myself . Is is too unique? What Would other people think of it?

Maybe it’s my pregnancy hormones but I don’t know what to think anymore, please help.

I think it’s nice !! And I love eddy. I’ve been living in Australia for the last 7 years so I’m not sure how popular eddy is in the UK. I feel like it’s an obviously very well known but not sure popular these days ?? Not sure where it ranks in the top baby names. Edison is a bit different without being too “out there”

Borris · 18/02/2020 22:12

It's not to my taste. Edmund?

MrsEricBana · 18/02/2020 22:15

Sorry not for me either - it's in that camp of last names used as first names. I like Edward as is classic but no good if you don't.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 18/02/2020 22:16

You know it’s the name on lightbulbs? ie Edison screw-in? Why not just call the baby Eddie? We called one of my ds’s the nick-name of his name. If you don’t like the full name and are never going to call them that anyway I don’t see the point.

ChloeDecker · 18/02/2020 22:16

Yes! It’s my nephew’s name. He is 12 now and actually, has come across the name in others a few times. No one has ever batted an eyelid over his name. I’d go for it!

EllaWallace · 18/02/2020 22:16

Wouldn't be my taste either. I know a little Edgar, personally like that or Edmund.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 18/02/2020 22:18

No. Edward or Edmund. Edison is a surname and should remain so.

JollyGiraffe12 · 18/02/2020 22:19

I don’t like it sorry. Edmund?

ChloeDecker · 18/02/2020 22:21

Thankfully, my nephew has never come across the posters on this thread Grin

Gymgirl0 · 18/02/2020 22:22

Unfortunately my DH is big on calling your child the full name rather than a nickname otherwise He would be Eddy
I’m not a huge fan on traditional names such as Edgar and Edmund but they are good suggestions

My favourite Eddie is Edwin but Edison is nice too.

hannahfaith · 18/02/2020 22:29

I was pushing for Edison but we live in the state that Thomas Edison is from and there's a town named Edison here.
I love the name Edison nn Eddie. I agree with you that it has a modern sound while still sharing the adorable nn of Eddie

amazedmummy · 18/02/2020 22:32

My first boyfriend was called Edison and he was such a lovely boy. So probably because if that I think it's a really nice name.

ladycarlotta · 18/02/2020 22:36

Am I alone in liking Edison? The reason it's on lightbulbs is because the inventor of the lightbulb was Thomas Edison.

HerRoyalFattyness · 18/02/2020 22:39

I know a little Edison. He's adorable and lively and really suits his name.

Hepsibar · 18/02/2020 22:44

I love Eddie or Eddy but not so keen on Edison as sound to me like a surname or Lighthouse.

Goingunderground2 · 18/02/2020 22:56

Edmund? We have just had an Edmund/ Eddie. Slightly biased but we love it.

username1724 · 18/02/2020 22:58

Love it, much nicer that Edgar/Edmund

aprilfools19 · 18/02/2020 22:59

Any chance you have any heritage meaning you could use Eduardo? 😅 I love it but feel like unless there’s Spanish/Italian heritage it’s probably a bit strange to use it.

Isawthathaggis · 18/02/2020 23:00

Love it. I know an extremely bright boy call Edison, nn Ned.
Brilliant name.

Astronica · 18/02/2020 23:02

I like Edison. It's along the same style as Harrison and Jackson, both good names. I think Edison is a good choice if you're not keen on Edward, Edmund etc.

KellyHall · 18/02/2020 23:02

It's a great name - don't talk yourself out of it. Why don't you think of a few options and decide when you see the baby which name suits him best?

foxystoatfoxypig · 18/02/2020 23:05

I think Edison great! Very cool. I hate the nickname Eddie though but maybe because there were several in my form at school and they were all arseholes! I'd always call a little Edison by his full name.

Fantasiaa · 18/02/2020 23:08

Edison is great ! A lovely option if he decides not to go buy Eddie/Eddy. Love love

DramaAlpaca · 18/02/2020 23:11

I'm not normally a fan of surnames as first names but I like Edison.

It makes me think of a Brazilian footballer Football Smile
