I have fallen in love with the NN Eddy but don’t like the name Edward.Edison seems like a more modern version And similar name to the name Jackson. I love it but as I’m getting closer to my due date I’m second guessing myself . Is is too unique? What Would other people think of it?

Maybe it’s my pregnancy hormones but I don’t know what to think anymore, please help.

Really like it
I know one and his friends call him Edd (20s)

Maduixa · 18/02/2020 23:19

Unfortunately my DH is big on calling your child the full name rather than a nickname otherwise He would be Eddy.

Good for your DH. No one wants to have no choice but to be called Eddy or Ed at age 35. It's fine if you choose it for yourself, but not for a parent to impose. It's a nickname.

I personally don't like Edison unless it is a family name for you or your DH. I'd be looking at Alfred, Benedict, Cedric, Edgar, Edmund, Edward, Edwin, Frederick, Jedediah, Jared, Manfred, Theodore, Wilfred. But if you both love Edison and don't like any of the other options, please use it. It's far better than Eddy.

Edric?

heidbuttsupper · 19/02/2020 00:34

Edson. If your DH is a footie fan, Edson is Peles real name.

donquixotedelamancha · 19/02/2020 00:46

The reason it's on lightbulbs is because the inventor of the lightbulb was Thomas Edison.

Nope. Volta invented electric lights. Swann invented the modern bulb. Edison (or someone who worked for him) improved Swann's design and Edison sued Swann claiming to have invented it. His name is on lots of inventions because he had good lawyers and was very good at self promotion. How many he actually invented is unclear.

Personally I prefer Nikola, as a first name, to Edison.

@Maduixa disagree. My parents put a nickname name on my birth certificate- I’m glad they did! Just makes things really easy for me. That’s my name that’ll be used everywhere. I don’t have to faff about on forms and things saying full name is Y but I’m “known as” X. I’m also really indecisive and I know I’d have stressed out to pick which name I prefer, full version or short. Glad u didn’t get the option.
Anyone can change their name if they want to though x

Whatsyourflava · 19/02/2020 09:04
  • “I” not “u”
Goodmornfelds · 19/02/2020 09:15

Really nice, it was on my boys name list

Mamabear88 · 19/02/2020 09:58

Oooh I really like Eduardo!

user1493494961 · 19/02/2020 10:40

Eduardo, nn Eddie, is much classier than Edison.

MikeUniformMike · 19/02/2020 10:59

No, but I like Edwin. Edmund, Edward and Edgar.

Nowayorhighway · 20/02/2020 14:03

No, I don’t like surnames used as first names.

FickleTickle · 20/02/2020 14:15

I knew an Edison years ago. He would be in his 40's now. I think he was from Brazil.

Anyway, a lovely name in my opinion.

fantasmasgoria1 · 20/02/2020 14:21

It's fine and far better than Edward and Edmund is stuffy.

CaffiSaliMali · 20/02/2020 18:16

Eduardo is lovely. I'm also partial to Edmund. I quite like Edison though.

I agree with your husband to put a full name on BC, most Edwards and Edmunds I know go by Ed, but I know a few who prefer their full names. Nice to have the option.

heidihigh · 20/02/2020 18:21

Not for me I'm afraid. Reminds me of lightbulbs Blush

Roselilly36 · 20/02/2020 18:23

It’s a nice name, but probably because of the film Chitty, Chitty Bang, Bang, I wouldn’t use it for a child, it was the dog’s name!

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 20/02/2020 18:24

I love Edison it was second on my list for my DS. NN Ed, Eddy or Sonny.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 20/02/2020 18:26

It reminds me of the Man City goalkeeper.
