Audrey or Tabitha?

Baby 3 (gender will be a surprise) is a way off yet but I liked both of these names when I had my first daughter and ended up giving her Audrey as one of her middle names. Tabitha wasn’t used in the end.

Audrey was my fabulous Grandma’s name and as she’s recently passed away it would mean a lot to me and my family for a new baby to have the same name. It would no doubt be shortened to Auds or Audie if we went for it. There’s just something about it though that doesn’t grab me 100% (until recent years I just saw it as a Granny name and not much more). We all miss her like crazy and it would be fab to have a mini Audrey.

My husband and I both love Tabitha (I don’t mind the comments about it sounding like a “cat name” as my son has a “dog name”). I like the nicknames that go with it and also think it goes well with my older childrens’ names. I think I prefer it as a name but obviously it doesn’t have the same family connection as Audrey.

Luckily we have a boy name sorted so no worries there!

Which do you prefer? Or any suggestions of similar names we may not have thought of?
Thanks in advance!

Audrey is a beautiful name..

TellItLikeItReallyIs · 17/02/2020 17:08

If you want to honor your Granny, you can do that with a middle name as you did with your D1.

Tabitha is a terrible name to give a child. It's all very well for you to dismiss the 'cat's name' association but you won't be the person living with the name for 80 years.

Audrey is better but it always makes me think of Audrey and Audrey II

Audrey is a fabulous name

I don’t like Tabitha at all and the two I know are shortened to Tabs which is horrible

burritofan · 17/02/2020 17:24

Tabitha is great! All names are cat names since you can call a cat anything.

Audrey is nice but not fair to give a baby a name that's already their sibling's name, imo

BarbaraBeast · 17/02/2020 17:46

That has been one of my reservations with using Audrey as it’s my daughter’s second middle name-I don’t know it’s a bit mean to give her a name that’s already been used elsewhere.

Audrey!!

Whatsyourflava · 17/02/2020 18:12

Audrey 🥰🥰🥰

What’s your boy name out of interest @BarbaraBeast

Cbeebiesrehab · 17/02/2020 18:13

Audrey is my daughter’s middle name to honour my beautiful nan, part of me wished I had saved it for if I had another girl, turns out I didn’t and won’t be having any more so I’m SO glad I used it, although part of me thinks she looks like a little Audrey.

I also love Tabitha but Audrey just has that shineStar

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 17/02/2020 18:15

Both lovely names. I have a niece called Tabitha and we call her tabby and tabs and a friend called Audrey who we call Auds - they WILL get shortened so consider that!

diddlediddle · 17/02/2020 18:15

Tabitha is better. It's a neutral name you and DH both like. Audrey is lovely but as you've already used it with your dd I think it'd be a bit strange to use it again. Also I think having your first name after such a close relative is a bit much, child needs their own identity. Use it again as a middle name? Then sisters will have it in common too?

TimeIhadaNameChange · 17/02/2020 18:24

Tabitha. I prefer the name anyway, and I really don't like the idea of reusing a name among siblings.

finallychangedmyusername · 17/02/2020 18:26

I much prefer Tabitha. And you have already used Audrey for your first daughter.

Carouselfish · 17/02/2020 18:31

Love both. Worked with an adult Tabitha. She was lovely. Nobody thought it unusual.

MikeUniformMike · 17/02/2020 18:32

not keen on either sorry.

MikeUniformMike · 17/02/2020 18:33

Given the family connection, Audrey.

Peachbubble · 17/02/2020 20:07

Tabitha

Dogsaresomucheasier · 17/02/2020 20:14

Love both but don’t like the idea of reusing dd1s middle name.

NoSauce · 17/02/2020 20:53

Tabitha by a million miles. Audrey is terrible.

Strugglingtoquit · 17/02/2020 21:04

Love Tabitha, and I like Tabby or Tabs as a nickname, much nicer than Audrey imo

17caterpillars1mouse · 17/02/2020 21:05

I prefer Audrey, I'm not sure how I feel about using one child's middle name on a subsequent child though.

If you prefer Tabitha, you should probably go for that. You've already honoured your gran when naming dd1

Astronica · 17/02/2020 23:08

Both great names. Since you have already used Audrey for your oldest daughter I would use the lovely Tabitha this time. Perhaps for a middle name you could use something else for your Grandma? - a gemstone, favourite flower, birth month, her middle name?

I love Tabitha nicknames too: Tabby, Tibby, Beth or something a bit different like Tiggy.

Kokeshi123 · 18/02/2020 02:21

Both nice names, but Audrey gets my vote. It's such an elegant name, but cute for a little girl as well.
