What does everyone think about naming a baby boy Marnie? Is it just for girls? Opinions 😊

No

Eleanor90 · 15/02/2020 19:40

I’d say no, because I don’t like the name much, but it’s interesting how people react to a “girl” name on a boy. It’s a shame that it’s seen as acceptable the other way round, but never this way.

I quite like the spelling Marney for a boy, actually. I know a Marley, if you like that, and also a Verney and an Acey, which are kind of similar.

Elouera · 15/02/2020 19:42

I agree, dislike it for a girl, let alone a boy! As others have said, what do you like about it? The sound, family connection or something else?

averythinline · 15/02/2020 19:45

why would you? what is it that you like about the name - I wouldnt as it is firmly a female name in my head and I had no wish for my Ds to be a 'boy named sue' but I also dont like it that much - so wouldnt use it for a girl either... names that sound similiar
Barney , Bertie, Ronnie, Charlie

Frankie, Percy,

Just no.

I just have always really liked the name marnie! There's no real connection to it, and this thread certainly wasn't me dead set on naming my boy Marnie. I just wanted to see other people's opinions on it which are obviously quite strong 🙈

I like pretty names, even for boys.

@Eleanor90 ahhh the only person who doesn't think I'm crazy!! 🤣💙 Acey is really sweet!!

Barney and Marley are nice!

bobstersmum · 15/02/2020 19:54

Haha, no you can't. Or more, you shouldn't.

Singlenotsingle · 15/02/2020 19:56

It's a bit like Johnny Cash "A boy named Sue". It'll set him up for bullying all his life.

TillyTheTiger · 15/02/2020 19:56

How about Marley instead?

Helenluvsrob · 15/02/2020 19:57

Marley ?

Thefaceofboe · 15/02/2020 19:58

I know a boy called Marni, although I do think of a girl when I hear it x

Byets · 15/02/2020 19:59

I do really like Marley that could deffo be an alternative!

No way

peachypetite · 15/02/2020 20:00

Choose a different name

Strugglingtoquit · 15/02/2020 20:04

No, it’s a girls name! I have exactly the same reaction when people think it’s trendy to name their daughter James fwiw

SpeedofaSloth · 15/02/2020 20:05

No.

ironicname · 15/02/2020 20:05

No, it's a girls name.

ColouringPencils · 15/02/2020 20:09

It's funny isn't it, because it does sound a lot like lots of boys' names. Arnie, Barney, Marley, Harley, Mani, Arlo. It doesn't sound particularly feminine to me and as far as I know it is unusual enough that most of the other kids in school won't have met a girl Marnie so wouldn't expect it to be a girls' name. I like it, but don't know if I would have the nerve to use it myself.

EuroMillionsWinner · 15/02/2020 20:14

Why not? Every other girl on these threads is James or Teddy.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 15/02/2020 20:17

No

It’s a girl

JKScot4 · 15/02/2020 20:18

Marnie used to be a pet name for Margaret.
