Is Autumn too unusual?

I love this name for a girl (due in Sept) but worried it's just a bit too 'out there.'
Thoughts?

I love it! I would’ve used it for my DD but it doesn’t go with our surname. I don’t think it’s particularly whacky.

Amys136 · 11/02/2020 13:57

I love it too!

I quite like it - it is very 'American' and you might get some rolled eyes or people telling you it's pretentious but if you like it then go for it. Just remember you do have to live with it forever and so does she so consider the possible life scenarios in which she'll have to use her name both nursery, school, work, social etc. However seems to me like Autumn would be fine in any of those scenarios it's not 'little girlie' that wouldn't go well in a work environment. As I said at the start, I like it :-)

LochJessMonster · 11/02/2020 13:58

I love it for a girl born in Autumn.

Rhubarbncustard4 · 11/02/2020 14:00

I knew an Autumn at University , not heard it used since , I think it’s nice

Whatsyourflava · 11/02/2020 14:02

It’s not out there at all
According to official stats:
Over 400 baby girls were given this name in 2018. It’ll be top 100 by the time the 2020 stats come out I bet

It’s a gorgeous name @DomTH

thefamousfiveplusone · 11/02/2020 14:07

I love it. It's my DD's middle name and she was born on a beautiful October morning.

I've heard it used more and more so possibly not such an 'out there' name as it may have been back along.

17caterpillars1mouse · 11/02/2020 14:11

Not at all. There is a 3 year old Autumn in dds dance class and when I first heard it I thought what a lovely name it is

BumbleBeeFlower · 11/02/2020 14:23

I love it! But I have been told I can't use it as DD will be a spring baby and it would be 'odd' 😩

BobbyBlueCat · 11/02/2020 14:26

Very pretty.

DomTH · 11/02/2020 14:32

Thanks all. Surprised that it's more popular than I realised! Good to hear, in a way.

Any thoughts on what it could be shortened to?

Darkpinkblue · 11/02/2020 14:34

Both my husband and I love it and will use it if we have a daughter though we may only use it if she was born in autumn

Whatsyourflava · 11/02/2020 14:40

@DomTH it’s definitely still pretty unusual though OP. Don’t let my stats put you off. I’ve never met one and I go to a LOT of baby groups 🙈

Whatsyourflava · 11/02/2020 14:41

I actually don’t think it will get shortened @DomTH

Maybe Autie (sounding a bit like Ottie short for Ottilie) - but I think it’s a name that will hopefully stick in its entirety

Divebar · 11/02/2020 14:43

There was a Winter here yesterday... that was definitely more unusual but both are pretty. And to answer your question... don’t shorten it? 🤷‍♀️

haverhill · 11/02/2020 14:45

In Donnie Darko, the English teacher says that 'autumn' is the most beautiful word in the language.
I'm fairly traditional about names, but Autumn manages to be a touch bohemian but also classy.

DomTH · 11/02/2020 14:45

I wondered about 'Tommie' but could be a bit tenuous.

If we go for it (quite surprised that DH likes it tbh) then I'll be glad if it becomes a bit more popular. I've run it past a few people and their expressions run from confused to politely amused haha.

I know an Autumn that gets called Auts

TrippingOnSunshine · 11/02/2020 14:50

Love love love this name!! If I had another dd would definitely use this name!
Nn could be Autie??

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/02/2020 14:50

Nice name, agree its growing in popularity, have come across it a few times in recent years

TheoneandObi · 11/02/2020 14:57

Nice name. Doesn't sound that unusual.
Oooh imagine an Autumn with beautiful auburn, or titian locks. Perfect!

Starburst8 · 11/02/2020 14:58

Love the name Autumn. DS would have been named it had he turned out to be a girl 😁
My theory is people use the names Summer, May, April and Winter without batting an eye, so go for it!

Willow4987 · 11/02/2020 14:58

I love this name!

bb2605 · 11/02/2020 15:04

@BumbleBeeFlower that's rubbish - it surely isn't only reserved for Autumn babies? I mean, you wouldn't call your baby Spring would you haha? Go for the name if you love it I don't think that's weird at all :-)
