Edie - popular?

Is Edie, whether as a standalone name or diminutive, particularly common or popular where you live? This is more out of curiosity than a need to be rare or uncommon.

Plantainchips · 09/02/2020 22:57

@Howmanysleepsnow

PlantPotting · 09/02/2020 22:59

elp30 · 09/02/2020 23:14

The only Edie I have ever come across is:

Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians

She was cute and had a short but successful career before she married Paul Simon.

EachandEveryone · 09/02/2020 23:18

I know how three under the age of three. I love it. I think its getting more popular.

thebluearsefly · 09/02/2020 23:21

I know an Edie under 4 😍 lovely name but I reckon it’s going to be popular

june2007 · 09/02/2020 23:35

I knew a Edie. (prenounced with an Ee for Edith not Ed for Edwina.) Also had a great aunt Edith and prefer the longer version then shorten if you/they wish.

Mumdiva99 · 09/02/2020 23:40

There is one Edie at my daughter's school and a friend has an Edith known as Edie.

HalfBloodPrincess · 09/02/2020 23:42

2 babies, both born this year.

TheHallouminati · 09/02/2020 23:42

I have an Edith aged 9. We always assumed we'd end up using Edie as a nickname but she's stayed Edith.

We've come across three others of similar ages. Strangely, two of the other Ediths we know have the same middle name as my DD (although each spell theirs differently: Mae, May and Mai!)

The other Edith we knew was in dds nursery. She was there when our Edith started and we were bemused to find out that her parents used the name Edie-Pops as that was our nickname for DD! We stopped using it after that though as I think they thought we'd stolen it!!

I love the name Edith and have done ever since I came across Diary of a Crush in J17 magazine!

(I secretly hope my DD will use the nickname Eddie when she gets older.)

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 10/02/2020 01:01

I know Edens but none of then go by Edie. I think it's cute but I'm not a fan of Edith as a full name.

HurryUpPlease1234 · 10/02/2020 01:05

I loved the name because of diary of a crush too!

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 10/02/2020 01:10

I know of an Edie. She must be 12 now.
I do feel it needs to be short for something but I’m one of those people.

PurpleGentian · 10/02/2020 01:13

I’ve never come across any Edie’s, but it’s a name that has risen a lot in popularity (as a stand alone name) over the last few years

RainbowMum11 · 10/02/2020 01:15

I know one, it's a beautiful name!

RainbowMum11 · 10/02/2020 01:17

I also know an Eden and an Edith - all lovely names which suits their owners

Grufallosfriends · 10/02/2020 06:59

I only know an Edward who's known as Ed or Edie.

Don't know any Edens or Ediths.

eatanazurecrayon · 10/02/2020 07:01

It's my moms name and we will name our child after her if we have a girl. Never met another one!

YeahNahWhal · 10/02/2020 07:04

One is 5, she's an Edith who goes by Edie. One is 3, she's an Eden but uses Edie too. They both get lost in the sea of Evies, Evas, Avas and Ivys tho!

scrivette · 10/02/2020 07:05

I have only ever known one and she is 4 now.

MargaeryTyrell · 10/02/2020 07:06

My niece is an Edie and she's 3

mistermagpie · 10/02/2020 07:09

We considered it for DD (who is called Iris) because DH loved it, but I worried it would just get lumped in with all the Evie/Eva/Eve's we know.

I do like Edith but we know two little ones.

SallyWD · 10/02/2020 08:07

I know 1 Edie who is 9.

Pigsmightfly212 · 10/02/2020 11:19

I know of 2 called Edith but shortened to Edie.
3 called Eden shortened to Edie.
One is just Edie, and another one spelt Eadie.
Oh and an Edie-Mae.
They are all under sixteen.

I love the name Edith.
