Please help! Luca for a boy

My husband is set on Luca for a boy however it's just not grabbing me. Perhaps it'll grow on me.
Are there any names you could suggest as an alternative?

Luca is top 5 in Italy and has been for some years. It's the Italian equivalent of Jack in that every class has got about 3.
Do you have Italian or Balkan heritage? If not, then I think it sounds wrong.

I think it’s weird if you don’t have Italian roots. Ellis is nice. Or Luke, Lucien, Lucas etc

Agreed, Luca is pretty mainstream now. I don't think you need Italian heritage to use it. I like it, but like Ellis too so not much help

So many names are not English, in fact I can't think of any name that solely is of one background.
Neither my husband or me are English but I don't think this is really relevant?

I wouldn’t worry too much we all have our own opinions on things. Luca is pretty mainstream now and id put money on 95% of people choosing the name having no Italian roots. It obviously doesn’t bother them but it would bother others. You’ll never please everyone with a name choice anyway

Luca is okay. Quite popular now and it is used widely outside of Italian heritage. I prefer Lucas.

I don't get the 'you can't call the child that if you don't have the heritage'. They're not pedigree dogs.

Most 'mainstream' names now have their roots far out of the UK. DS's is Hebrew in origin. We're not.

You misunderstand OP. There's nothing wrong with liking a name from another culture- but, to give you an example- in dd's Italian class there is an Italian child with an American popstar name. A name which in the US is perfectly usual. But which here sounds ridiculous.
I often see Italian names suggested on here also which are now considered so old fashioned that no Italian baby has been given that name for about 80 years- the equivalent of something like Enoch or Cedric if you see what I mean.
Nothing wrong with Enoch or Cedric either, except I think most people would be a bit "oh, that's a bit off the wall, wonder if they realise how Charles Dickens they sound"

That said, Luca is just mega trendy so you won't have that problem.

Luca always make me think of Suzanne Vega's song about an abused child, so it would be a No from me.

If you or hubby are Italian and you want Luca then go for it! It's not a bad name.
My honest feeling about it is that Luca feels feminine and would be a bit odd if he's English without Italian ancestry. I can't work out if you mean Ellis or Eli? But I prefer both of these to Luca.

I love Luca and have only come across one in my entire life.
He was the doctor who attended my very sick baby. I almost changed ds's name to Luca but dh didn't want to ( we hadn't registered d's by this stage).

How about Lucas as a compromise ?

Don’t like Luca at all. Know two people who have used it in the last 6 months. Don’t get why people like it tbh.

I have a Luca so I'm biased. My family is Italian but I don't think it really matters it's much more mainstream now.
