Blue for a boy?

Hello,

I’m due a baby boy in the spring, my first child.

Dad isn’t on the scene so the name is all up to me, which would be great if I wasn’t so indecisive!

One I really really love but I’m not sure if it’s too out there is Blue... what do you think? Surname is something simple and very common, think Bones with a J. Does it work or does it clash too much?

Other names I like: River, Jude, Otis, Luca, Sky (is this seen as a girls name?), Bay, Flynn, Asher...

Any input would be great, I feel like I’m going round in circles with no one to bounce name ideas off. Thank you!

Awful. Absolutely awful. Don’t call your child Blue.

Doppledoe · 08/02/2020 22:36

I like Jude and Asher.

Bay is silly and so it blue.

Pipandmum · 08/02/2020 22:37

I had a cat called Blue. But I don't think he realised.
Just think of the teasing your lad will have all through school.

powershowerforanhour · 08/02/2020 22:39

Only if you get him a blue Corvette for his first car.
Da ba dee...

Jossina · 08/02/2020 22:39

River, Asher and Sky(e) sound great. Please not Blue.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 08/02/2020 22:39

Blue just makes me think of the raptor on Jurassic World.

Agree with Bay being silly. Luca is nice.

Nonnymum · 08/02/2020 22:41

Sky is usually a girls name. I don't like Blue.

Jude, Otis and Luca are fine. The others I am less keen on Becaue they don't sound like names.

mulkshake · 08/02/2020 22:53

It's a colour.. and symbolises depression, melancholy, cold..

River is cool though. I knew a girl called Asher once but it could be a unisex name.

bitheby · 08/02/2020 22:56

I quite like it but I think the reaction you're getting here would be more common.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 08/02/2020 23:21

I dont like colors as names generally. Someone asked about the name Navy the other day though and I quite loved that actually. I don't like Blue as a name, sorry.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 08/02/2020 23:22

I know a little girl called Blue. Her mum regrets her choice despite being certain at the time... it’s an odd name and it gets odd reactions. I think she wishes she’d gone with a more conventional name and then used Blue as a nickname.

Andsbk · 08/02/2020 23:25

I do like
JACOB
KIERAN
EVAN
Good luck 🤞

Charis1503 · 08/02/2020 23:28

Hideous. Why on earth would you choose this for a human child?

Have you not seen the kids film Rio?! Its a parrot called Blue.

Are you planning to have more children? Yellow?! Magenta?!

If you want something unusual... fab. But please go with an actual name. Not a fruit/colour/vegetable!!

Otis,Orlan,Wren,Inigo,milo,jasper,flynn,quinn...

Aquamarine1029 · 08/02/2020 23:29

River is nice. I like Raven Jones, too. I know a lovely chap named Raven so I have a soft spot for the name. Hard pass on Blue, though.

Whynosnowyet · 08/02/2020 23:30

Blue is surely a name for a dinosaur?

Pr1nc3ssP3rdy · 08/02/2020 23:35

I love Blue and it's my first choice - kinda looks like we're on our own with this though OP Grin

thistimelastweek · 08/02/2020 23:40

This will date me but Blue is surely a dog's name.
And it's kind of the ultimate in colour coding

user1493494961 · 08/02/2020 23:41

Only like Luca, Jude or Flynn, most of your names are odd.

Runkle · 08/02/2020 23:43

Sorry just no. Your other names except Sky and Bay are much much better. Or how about Indigo (Indie)?

Whatsyourflava · 08/02/2020 23:50

I would worry slightly about the initials BJ sorry

Blue is ok though

I LOVE River Jude Otis Asher Luca and Flynn
Sky is a female name to my ears

How about Bodhi if you’re set on B names

Or Otis? Chester? Cole? Caleb?

bitheby · 09/02/2020 00:02

If the surname really is Jones then Indigo Jones is too similar to Inigo Jones.

FamilyOfAliens · 09/02/2020 00:06

Do you like any traditional names, OP? Ones that won’t date like the ones on your list.

Corneliusmurphy · 09/02/2020 00:07

There’s a Blue in dtwins year and the kids have always entirely accepted it but the adults did take the piss initially. The boys do think it funny that his favourite colour is black, he gets quite cross over it - I’m not sure Blue loves his name tbh...

EmmiJay · 09/02/2020 00:10

Blue is nice. Its very unique. Very cool with that surname in fact.

JingsMahBucket · 09/02/2020 00:18

I love the name Blue. It’s calming to say and it’s pleasing to the ear. It doesn’t seem out there at all to me @Philipippa. I’d go with it. :)
