We like vintage girls names but are having trouble narrowing down our list. Options we’re considering (with nicknames)-

Adelia (Ada or Della)
Genevieve (Eve)
Violet
Francesca
Edith (Edie)
Mirabelle (Mira or Belle)
Estelle
Margot
Eleanor (Nell)
Fern
Rose
Elodie
Vera

Please let us know your opinions- we’re also open to suggestions! We would prefer something that’s not too common. Surname ends in an ‘e’ sound.

Thank you

I like Violet, Edith and Margot. Good luck

Shmithecat2 · 01/02/2020 06:07

Francesca

Adelia (Ada or Della) - lovely, not sure of the non though. They have different vowel sounds from the original name
Genevieve (Eve) - gorgeous.

Violet - I love this name
Francesca - okay
Edith (Edie) - I know a lovely little Eddie. Doesn’t make me like the name, though.
Mirabelle (Mira or Belle) - love the non more than the full name
Estelle - old fashioned but not in the same way as Edith.
Margot - seems to be getting popular
Eleanor (Nell) - you have nicer names on your list.
Fern - okay
Rose - okay. Pretty enough but...
Elodie - not keen on this one
Vera - not keen

You have some lovely, interesting names on your list. I’d go with a name from nearer the top of your list. Unusual without being outlandish.

Good luck, OP.

whiteroseredrose · 01/02/2020 06:25

They're all lovely.

Less sure about Edith and Elodie but I love Genevieve. Wish I'd thought of it!

Ricekrispie22 · 01/02/2020 07:37

Love: Eleanor, Fern, Edith, Violet, Francesca and Genevieve.

How about:
Martha
Lydia
Meredith
Colette
Mabel
Sylvia/Sylvie
Nancy
Iris
Phyllis
Theodora

MonaChopsis · 01/02/2020 07:48

If you don't want something common, I'd avoid anything with the nickname 'Eve'. There seem to be a lot of Eve's and Evie's around at the moment. If you love it, maybe use 'Vivi' for the nickname??

Ikeameatballs · 01/02/2020 07:57

Adelia (Ada or Della) like this
Genevieve (Eve), Eve/Evie are really popular, you might want to avoid
Violet, I hear Violent
Francesca, ok
Edith (Edie), love this
Mirabelle (Mira or Belle), too frilly for my tastes
Estelle, love this, pretty but not frilly imo
Margot, no, too of the moment.
Eleanor (Nell), ok
Fern, dull
Rose, dull
Elodie, love this
Vera, no

I also like Sylvia, Lydia and Nancy as suggested by Ricekrispie22.

My suggestions:

Harriet/Hattie
Sukie
Vivienne
Sadie
Freda
Corinne

bridgetreilly · 01/02/2020 09:10

I really like Edith nn Edie from your list. You could also consider Winifred nn Freddie.

bridgetreilly · 01/02/2020 09:12

Also Ethel nn Ellie.

Whatsyourflava · 01/02/2020 09:17

These are my standout favourites from your list 🥰🥰🥰

Violet
Edith (Edie)
Margot
Eleanor (Nell)
Rose
Elodie

milliefiori · 01/02/2020 09:18

I love Genevieve. Could be Eve?Evie but if that gets too common, could also be Genie which is wonderful. Or Viv, Vivie which are lovely too.

shamelessfamilyoverroad · 01/02/2020 09:20

I like Adelia or why not Adaline?

Lifeaback · 01/02/2020 09:35

We share very similar tastes OP- 3 names on your list are my DDs names!

Adelia- I love this, very elegant and different. I like Ada as a nickname
Genevieve- DD3s name so one of my favourites. She gets the nn Vivi as when she was born her sisters couldn’t pronounce the whole name, it’s stuck and is very sweet
Violet- DD2s name, might just be where we are in the country but there are 2 other Violets in her year so it’s definitely more common than the others. I also considered Viola when we were choosing
Francesca- I love this and it was on my list. It’s quite common where we are though
Edith- DD1s name. I still love it as much as the day we picked it but it’s definitely like marmite- my mum refused to call her by name for her first few weeks as she hated it so much!
Mirabelle- I’m not a fan of this one personally
Estelle- lovely name, pretty but not girly and ‘cutesy’. It’s very timeless too
Margot- this was top of my list but DH vetoed it as all he could see was ‘maggot’ which I’ve seen a lot of people on here say. Silly IMO because it’s such a beautiful, strong name
Eleanor- I really dislike this but have never been able to put my finger on why
Fern- not a massive fan
Rose- nice name but a bit ‘meh’ imo
Elodie- I love
Vera- I love

Other suggestions- DD4 is called Astrid (doesn’t go very well with the others so might not be to your taste but it’s definitely not common and we’ve had so many complements on it)

Nancy
Florence
Vivienne
Freya
Adelina
Zadie
Maya
Flora

foxystoatfoxypig · 01/02/2020 10:43

Adelia - I prefer Adelie
Edith (Edie) - prefer just Edie
Estelle - my favorite from your list
Fern
Elodie

Vera - I particularly hate Vera as it was my step grandmothers name as she was a nasty piece of work! Sorry! I don't think it has the old lady charm that a lot of other names of the same era do.

Ellmau · 01/02/2020 11:07

Genevieve and Rose are my favourites from your list. Both lovely.

sel2223 · 01/02/2020 14:53

I love Edith (edie)

20viona · 01/02/2020 14:57

Violet and Elodie

ButtonMoonLoon · 01/02/2020 15:04

What about
Evangeline
Amelie
Ottilie

I love Elodie!

Eeeeek2 · 01/02/2020 15:09

Adelia (Ada or Della) not keen
Genevieve (Eve) nice
Violet ok
Francesca ok
Edith (Edie) lovely
Mirabelle (Mira or Belle) not keen
Estelle ok
Margot ok
Eleanor (Nell) ok
Fern not keen
Rose I personally prefer rosemary with rose for short
Elodie lovely
Vera lovely

GlitteryGracie · 01/02/2020 15:21

Adelia (Ada or Della) like it but not Della, she’ll spend her life correcting people.
Genevieve (Eve) just no!!
Violet like it, but slight spoilt brat vibes aka Violet Boregard in Charlie and the Chocolate factory.
Francesca love this, classic and can’t go wrong.
Edith (Edie) Hate it, she’ll be born wearing a bobble hat.
Mirabelle (Mira or Belle) too flouncy for my taste.
Estelle like but don’t love it.
Margot: another classic name, love Maggie too despite the obvious “Thatcher” link.
Eleanor (Nell)like this but very common where i live.
Fern Love this, one of my favourites.
Rose meh, ok but very overused.
Elodie love it, another favourite.
Vera: no, she’ll join Edith in her bobble hat and have a good old gossip.

lobsteroll · 01/02/2020 15:33

Lovely names, especially like:

Violet
Margot
Mirabelle
Francesca
Fern
Rose

That doesn't really narrow it down much 🙈 but great choices!

eomma · 01/02/2020 15:55

EDIE!! i beg you, it’s my favourite name but i keep having boys. i love rose too, it makes a nice change as a first name. i used to be eleanor, i got called smellanor and eleawhore. i changed my name for my 16th birthday. it is a nice name but i couldn’t use it.

20viona · 01/02/2020 17:10

edie is so common right now! If you don't mind that then go for it.

eandz13 · 01/02/2020 17:34

I'm an Eleanor and I love my name. Absolutely love Genevieve, Edith and Vera. Great choice of names on that list!

17caterpillars1mouse · 01/02/2020 20:12

Adelia (Ada or Della) - not a fan of Adelia and am bored of Ada (they are everywhere where I live). I like Della though and I like Delia

Genevieve (Eve) - I like Genevieve but not a fan of Eve. I love Ginny as a nn though

Francesca - love it

Edith (Edie) love it, also love Meredith nn Edie

Mirabelle (Mira or Belle) - pretty, think I prefer the simplicity of Mirabel though

Estelle - like but prefer Estella

Margot - find it a bit meh, nicer in the middle name spot

Eleanor (Nell) - like, prefer Eleanore and prefer Norah

Fern - meh

Rose - OK, prefer Rosa

Elodie - not a fan
Vera - cool
