Allura-Aura

A good friend is expecting and just messaged to ask me what I think of this name..... She has met someone while on holiday with a daughter with this name and loves it. Do I give my honest opinion (it's awful!) or not? Is it just me...? I don't think I even like either name separate. Do I lie? Say I'm not keen but it's her choice? Or suggest something else?
It's such an odd name. Would she be known as just Allura or the full, onomatopoeic combo?

Well, there won’t be many of those in a class. That’s the most positive spin I can think of.

DramaAlpaca · 30/01/2020 22:43

Gosh, that's a bit of a mouthful isn't it?

If she's asked you opinion I reckon you can tell her exactly what you think. Good luck!

Binterested · 30/01/2020 22:43

And her twin, Kia Aura?

Sally872 · 30/01/2020 22:48

Can you forget to reply? Or just change the subject "reminds me of sleeping beauty. Have you been watching .....?"

I would never criticise anyone's name ideas, but would struggle to lie if directly asked.

villamariavintrapp · 30/01/2020 23:28

I'd maybe think it's autocorrected from something else? Bit blunt to
Ask, but maybe it would make the point?

TooleyVanDooley · 30/01/2020 23:31

It would fit in quite nicely with Alfie and Archie from the other thread.

Whathewhatnow · 30/01/2020 23:34

Is she on a shamanistic retreat in south America? Struggling to see how this would happen any other way.
Anyway... The Fuck No. sounds like a remedial device for erectile dysfunction.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 30/01/2020 23:37

Aurora yes but Allura sounds like Allure her which is a bit wrong

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 30/01/2020 23:53

I feel like she should pick only one. Those do not go together- they are too similar. Maybe just pick your preferred out of the two names and say I like this but not with this and suggest other middle names!

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 30/01/2020 23:56

Allura is interesting, have never heard of it before! I dont care for Aura. Aurora is much nicer! Maybe you can say you like it okay but it inspired you to think of some like minded suggestions and then suggest some similar sounding names.

TokenGinger · 31/01/2020 00:05

My friend has a child called Alaura which I assume is the same spelling. That's fine in itself, but hyphenated with Aura is awful.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 31/01/2020 00:09

I think if she’s asking outright I’d be straight with her and say it’s a mouthful and doesn’t flow right with so many A and Uh sounds.

I’m not a lover of hyphenated first names anyway, but it’s not exactly Ann-Marie in terms of easiness.

BobbyBlueCat · 31/01/2020 00:12

Hideous.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 31/01/2020 00:12

Eleanora would be similar but more normal.

Iwannatellyouastory · 31/01/2020 00:16

It’s awful, I know it doesn’t have a tor in front of it but when I said it out loud it made me think of Bing Crosby singing An Irish Lullaby, and not in a good way.

Freyanna · 31/01/2020 00:42

I thought it was the name of a new cosmetics brand when I saw the name.

No, I don't like it.

OnABeachSomewhere · 31/01/2020 00:52

Has to be autocorrect, surely? Maybe it was meant to say Aurelia?

MsTSwift · 31/01/2020 01:03

Everyone will call her Al

Justmuddlingalong · 31/01/2020 01:05

I make that sound when I vomit, so that would put me off slightly. 🤮

Sadiesnakes · 31/01/2020 01:06

Awful.

Aquamarine1029 · 31/01/2020 01:08

Sounds like the name of an exotic dancer/stripper.

Spartak · 31/01/2020 01:08

Sounds like a brand name for a lubricant for a dried up vag to me..

Firecracker2019 · 31/01/2020 08:42

I have double checked and it's not an auto correct issue. That is the actual name...
😬
I have juts said I think it is quite hard to say and she will always have to spell it all out (or will just end up being called Al?!) I have suggested Aurora and Eleanora (I quite like the latter!) maybe with something else short with it (but not Allura or Aura!).

Some of the product name comments have made me chuckle. 🤣

It's awful and If she's on Mumsnet she can see for herself what people think of it.

toomanyleggings · 31/01/2020 09:49

Sounds like a porn star
