Amy? Or another from shortlist?

We are struggling to choose a name for DD2 who is due soon. DD1 is named Clara.

My top name is Amy, which I've always loved. But it seems out of fashion right now? I went to see Little Women last week and DD2 was kicking all the way through (I know Amy isn't always a likeable character but she is in the latest version IMO!)

Other names we've considered are:

Ava
Sophia
Elise

What do you think?

Choosing a name that is out of fashion right now really isn't a bad thing, and Amy is a lovely name. I think I slightly prefer Ava, but I like Amy better than Sophia or Elise.

Eliza might be another option?

theseriousmoonlight · 26/01/2020 14:38

Amy is a lovely name. I like it best out of your list.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/01/2020 14:41

I love Amy. My sister's Amy (Well Aimee). I was always envious that she got the prettier name.
There's not too many little Amys around now, is there.
Please not another bloody Ava.

HubbardLizard · 26/01/2020 14:50

Clara is lovely. t goes quite well with Ava and Sophia.

Amy is very 90's, and tbh (sorry to PP with a sister called Aimee) I've never known a nice one. They all seem to be a bit bitchy and mean girl.

MsChatterbox · 26/01/2020 14:50

Amy

Mumma4262 · 26/01/2020 15:53

I love Elise.

Whatsyourflava · 26/01/2020 16:15

I love love love Amy and it seems like she’s given you a sign too! Don’t ignore it!

disappear · 26/01/2020 16:16

I don’t really agree that Amy is “very 90s”. I don’t believe it was ever very popular, so I don’t think it is out of fashion in the was that names like Sarah and Rachel are.

It was my MIL name and I like it.

Whatsyourflava · 26/01/2020 16:16

Ava and Sophia I also really love though

Aimily · 26/01/2020 16:17

I vote Amy, but I'm biased

@HubbardLizard I'm an Amy and I like to think I'm a nice person 😂

emilybrontescorsett · 26/01/2020 16:23

Of you like Any then go for it.

namedecision · 26/01/2020 17:04

Thanks everyone! Cautiously positive then, it may be our winner...

@bridgetreilly my sister's toddler is Eliza so it's ruled out Smile I do love the name though!

I like Amy too, but if you like Elise and Eliza would Elisa (Eleesa) be too close to Eliza op?

MrsBertBibby · 26/01/2020 17:11

Of your list, Amy is nicest, and goes very well with Clara.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 26/01/2020 18:33

I like Amie spelled like this. It gives it a French flair and modernizes it without an incorrect spelling because this is also correct! For some reason it makes me like it more. Amy is boring but Amie is lovely even though I know that may seem weird!

MrsBertBibby · 26/01/2020 18:38

"Amie" means "friend" and is pronounced completely differently.

Aimée is the French. Amy is English. Much the nicest.

MikeUniformMike · 26/01/2020 18:39

Amy - has been very popular in recent history. Will get called Ames. Please don't spell it Amie - it will look like you can't spell.
Ava - god no. Not particularly nice and very overused
Sophia - yes but quite popular. Soph-ee-a or Soph-eye-a? Will get spelt Sofia. Prefer Sophie.
Elise - nice but it's also a car. Will get confused with Elsie.

DramasticChanges · 26/01/2020 18:41

I love Elise, and also Elodie if you like a vowel and the start. Also Ida (which is DD's name.)

Ikeameatballs · 26/01/2020 18:44

I’d vote Amy.

Nothing wrong with the rest but I think they are all a bit of the moment and very popular right now, with the exception of Elise which I don’t like.
Amy sounds fresh by comparison.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 26/01/2020 18:45

Yes I meant Aimee! I like it much better than Amy for some reason.

I'm not sure how I arrived at Amie but I like that also more than Amy. But Aimee is what I was thinking. I don't know how I messed that up. Thank you MrsBertBibby!

Spied · 26/01/2020 18:47

I love Sophia.
Elise and Ava are very 'common' where I live.
Amy is ok. I do think of it as a 90s name and I much prefer DD 1's name. I'd much rather be a Clara than be Amy.

namedecision · 26/01/2020 19:34

I think we would spell it Amy!

Yesterdayforgotten · 26/01/2020 19:40

I like Sophie better than Sophia, far too many little Sophias atm.
I would go with Amy as at least there wont be a million of them and she could be the only one which would be lovely. 90's names are cool.

gospelsinger · 26/01/2020 19:49

Love all of your choices. Lovely names. Don't sound dated, just timeless.

Valkarie · 26/01/2020 20:45

I love the name Amy. Would have been on my list if I had made girls.
