We are due our first baby in June and cannot agree on names at all. We don’t know whether baby is a boy or a girl. Part of the problem is that neither is us have any names that we really like.

Our surname is Evan which is tricky as some names end up sounding a bit odd. I would love to hear what you would call a baby with our surname.

By the way, Ben is the dog and it’s the name that he came from the rescue with.
‘Ben’s mum’ is the name that I’ve been given by the local dog walkers.

I think three syllable names sound better, for example

What about : Alina for a girl

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/01/2020 22:52

I think you avoid names ending with an -a sound, so Julie, not Julia; Eleanor, not Ella; Katie, not Cara. The sound of a name when it rolls together is half the battle, imo

dworky · 24/01/2020 23:15

Devon

Bensmum1982 · 24/01/2020 23:29

Haha. Dworky. Smile my df’s very helpful suggestion was Ellen. Hmm

I like Eli and Micah also Daniel and James.
I like Sebastian too but can’t use it.

Girls names that I quite like but can’t use include Juniper, Rose and Isolde. Mainly our because they sound wrong in our accent.
But none are just right. Sorry,
I did say that I was fussy.

I think you need a longer name. Elizabeth, Charlotte, Arabella. What style name do you like.

Bensmum1982 · 24/01/2020 23:31

I Ilene Elizabeth and Charlotte but they are my niece’s names.

MAFIL · 24/01/2020 23:36

I also agree that a longer first name sounds better.
All I would have suggested have already been mentioned so I won't repeat them. I can empathise though. We have a weird surname (well it's DH's, I stuck with mine) and lots of names I love in their own right sound really stupid with the surname. We actually didn't agree on any names until after our babies were born, largely because of that. But once they were here, all their names came easily. So don't stress too much if you don't have a name in advance.
