Maybe I'm going bonkers with all the hormones but Deborah has made it into our shortlist. We even like Debbie!
Why not eh? It is an actual name isn't it.

I love Deborah.

DramaAlpaca · 23/01/2020 01:21

Deborah is really lovely, but I don't like Debbie much.

Astronica · 23/01/2020 02:02

I think Deborah is a great name. I know an adult and a young Deborah who both only get called their full name. I think nn Debbie is fine too.

Peony99 · 23/01/2020 02:14

I like Deborah, also Devorah but I think it helps to be Jewish to carry that off.

Rachel345 · 23/01/2020 07:25

Debbie is cute and Deborah is a great name. Makes a refreshing change!

Peachbubble · 23/01/2020 07:48

I like Deborah, but not Debbie.

Rachel345 · 23/01/2020 08:19

What's wrong with Debbie? Given the recent trend for cutesy names like Libby, Evie, Ellie, Poppy etc?

A little Deborah/Debbie probably won't have to share her name with lots of others. Great name!

Bezalelle · 23/01/2020 08:29

Still quite a popular name in Jewish circles! I know Deborahs of all ages. Most go by the full name. Devorah is pretty too, and I don't think you necessarily need to be Jewish to use it.

Notsure94 · 23/01/2020 08:31

Deborah is gorgeous.and due a come back. I knew a Debra and wondered why in earth you'd opt for a shorter version when the longer is so beautiful.

daisypond · 23/01/2020 08:32

Deborah is lovely. But Debbie seem very dated.

daisypond · 23/01/2020 08:47

Meant to add, Deborah means Bee. That’s a good short form for Deborah.

puddycat1 · 23/01/2020 08:51

My daughter's name is Debra I just preferred the spelling. Don't like Debbie but we shorten to Debs sometimes

PennyLaneLady · 23/01/2020 12:05

I'm surprised you all like it I thought you'd think I'm crazy! @puddycat1 - what reaction did you get from other people??

I think it's overdue a revival, go for it!

Pollyanna789 · 23/01/2020 13:05

I think it's refreshing to see some of these names coming back.
I really hope we're due a 70's names revival.

I really like Joanna.

sandybanana · 23/01/2020 13:07

My sister is a Deborah

She hates Debbie

She is called either Deb, Debs or Deborah.

Never Debbie.

ChangeInTime · 23/01/2020 13:22

Deborah is awful. Debbie is even worse.

puddycat1 · 23/01/2020 13:24

@PennyLaneLady I just loved the name but preferred the different spelling. No negative comments. Now this is a good few years ago but I would use it if I was having a girl now x

BrandoraPaithwaite · 23/01/2020 13:45

Debbie is the little girl in the Mog books. Classic, lovely. Do it!

TatianaLarina · 23/01/2020 13:56

Awful. Even if it’s ‘due’ a revival it hasn’t had one and there’s a reason for that.

PennyLaneLady · 23/01/2020 14:00

My dad wanted to call me Florence back in 1985 but everyone said it's awful - now look at it!
It's staying on the list and it's one of the few that my husband is on board with (he had a big crush on Debbie Harry Grin)

Deborah is a classic, biblical name. I know two who are in their late teens/early 20s and it suits them really well.

PennyLaneLady · 23/01/2020 18:35

That's good to hear @Quizeerascal

OP posts:
BobbyBlueCat · 23/01/2020 18:41

I don't like it.
In my mind, it's a middle-aged woman's name. And a frumpy one.

redexpat · 23/01/2020 18:46

I went to school with one. She was cool!

And as a pp mentioned the girl in the Mog books is Debbie.
