Maybe I'm going bonkers with all the hormones but Deborah has made it into our shortlist. We even like Debbie!
Why not eh? It is an actual name isn't it.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
iklboo · 23/01/2020 18:47

It never suited ya (so said Jarvis Cocker)

It's a nice name but tainted for me by a horrible, back stabbing ex boss.

Rachel345 · 23/01/2020 19:04

it's a middle-aged woman's name.

They were once babies too! Smile

I think it's a lovely classic name and your dd will like not having to share her name with lots of others.

whattodo2019 · 23/01/2020 19:17

Sorry but NO... awful name and Debbie is even worse....

Enko · 23/01/2020 19:38

I quite like it

doritosdip · 23/01/2020 19:42

I think of the phrase "Debbie Downer" but I have teens so know lots of useful slang like that.

debbs77 · 23/01/2020 19:43

Well I think Deborah is a fantastic name!!!

SpruceTree · 23/01/2020 19:46

Love it.

BlueMoon1103 · 23/01/2020 19:49

Definitely due a come back!

Notso · 23/01/2020 19:51

I like Deborah.
Outing but it was my nn in school because my house was very small with woodchip on the wall Grin
Also have one in the family who goes by the nn Dora.

Chilver · 23/01/2020 19:51

I like Deborah. I also know one with nn Bora?

Mimilamore · 23/01/2020 20:08

Go for it, if you like the sound have it. All this It's an middle aged name or an old ladies name etc really gets on my wick. It is a name and there is no law to say you can't use it. I like it and have a 1 year old granddaughter called Gloria, love that too!!!

PrincessLouis · 23/01/2020 20:20

Why not? Debs makes me think of Men Behaving Badly, could be a good or bad association!

misspiggy19 · 23/01/2020 20:30

Urgh no. Should stay in the 80s where it belongs.

user1493494961 · 23/01/2020 20:51

I think you're crazy.

Pieceofpurplesky · 23/01/2020 20:52

I am 50 and every other girl was called Deborah - may be revival time!

MissDollyMix · 23/01/2020 21:34

I can’t hear Deborah without thinking of Jarvis cocker! Or Men Behaving Badly...

ButterflyRuns · 23/01/2020 21:37

It's a pretty outdated name, but I suppose plenty of names are making a comeback so why not? Definitely don't like Debbie though.

Oilnwater · 23/01/2020 22:10

Sometimes names depend on a person you know in real life. I knew an awful Debbie growing up, which has coloured my view of the name. Likewise my husband knew an awful Tim and when trying to come up with names for our first born, any names that had negative associations with people were rejected immediately.

CharitySchmarity · 24/01/2020 19:35

I quite like Deborah but I think the full version sounds more timeless than Debbie, which still feels very "about my age" (early 50s) to me.

Borodeb · 25/01/2020 12:13

I'm Debra but get Debbie or Debs.

I'm not middle aged or frumpy (I hope)

SheChoseDown · 25/01/2020 12:17

Is it deb-OR-ah ?
Or Debra?

FizzyGreenWater · 25/01/2020 13:33

I'm surprised you all like it I thought you'd think I'm crazy!

Nope - these kind of names are just the next to be back in fashion, that's all. Tis the way of it... soon it'll be back to Deborah, Karen, Lisa, Joanna, Nicola. You're just at the start of the curve.

your dd will like not having to share her name with lots of others.

Give it 5 years, and she'll be sharing Deborah with plenty of others!

TheCraicDealer · 25/01/2020 14:39

It's my name and I'm early 30's. Used to hate it (and I still dislike Debbie) but I've learnt to love the longer version. At our wedding we had Disco 2000 played by the string quartet as we walked back down the aisle.

I think it is due a revival. It's a good biblical name which was just a bit too trendy in the 60's!

Lazydaisydaydream · 25/01/2020 14:47

I like deborah, and know one my age (early thirties) who either gets called Deborah, Debs or Bee. I think it's a great name for a baby - common enough that everyone has heard of it etc but there aren't that many babies called it at the moment so she'll be unlikely to be one of seven in her class with the same name!

Poppydaisies · 25/01/2020 15:14

Good classic biblical name! Yes, it became a big too fashionable in the 70s but a little girl now called Deborah would stand out from the crowd of Ellies, Evies and Emilies.
