Strong girls names- if I like these, what else might I like?

Really need to get some options for DD, due in April!

Contenders so far are:

Erica
Erin
Freya
Bethany/Bettany
Alexis

I'm hoping not to repeat our slight mistake with DS- we thought that Sebastian would be a relatively unusual but not too 'out there' name. Turns out it is one of the most popular boys names for his generation in our area of SW London! Confused

We are due in March and like

Aubrey
Darcey

We already have an Emilia Grace

MrsBertBibby · 22/01/2020 22:13

Tamsin
Edith
Briony
Favell

MrsBertBibby · 22/01/2020 22:14

Ooh yes, Honor too.

OddshoesOddsocks · 22/01/2020 22:14

I like Erin the best from your list. We’re also due a girl in April and we have

Astrid
Margot
Bridget
Fearne

On our list.

Elliot is a girls name in my opinion, not one of choose but there’s no reason why you can’t!

Thistledew · 22/01/2020 22:15

I like Honor

I've always loved Emily/Emilia but it's too close to another family name.

I know one Monica who is the most twee person I've ever met so that doesn't strike me as a strong name!

I love Honor.

Freya is lovely but pithy I think.

Bridget actually means "strong".

NameChange30 · 22/01/2020 22:17

Hmmm. Like PPs I wouldn't call those strong names.

My idea of strong names for women:

Ada
Alexandra
Anna
Astrid
Elizabeth
Emma
Georgia
Grace
Helen
Joanna
Karen
Kate
Lyra
Margot
Nicole
Rachel
Ruth
Simone

I have a Talia and before she was born thought it was a beautiful pretty feminine name. My Talia from the minute she could talk threw the dolls away and wanted dinosaurs. Now she’s one of strongest girls I know.

I also have a Bethany she’s a dainty wee thing to me that’s not a strong name. Go for Talia unusual but not whacky.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 22/01/2020 22:20

Helen

Anne

(won't be many Helens or Anne's at toddler group, definitely would be ahead of the curve on their revival!)

Penelope ( but not Penny)

Margaret (but not Maggie)

solittletime · 22/01/2020 22:22

Ava springs to mind

tigerbear · 22/01/2020 22:25

I have an Orla
Unusual but not ‘out there’

TerrifiedandWorried · 22/01/2020 22:25

Aurora nn Rory

NameChange30 · 22/01/2020 22:27

It seems the idea that boys are strong and girls are not is so deeply ingrained that apparently the best strong "girls'" names people can suggest are Rory and Elliott 🙄

Canklesforankles · 22/01/2020 22:28

Agatha
Millicent
Margaret
Ottiline
Dorothy
Frances
Romilly
Nancy
Catherine/Kathryn
Fiona

TerrifiedandWorried · 22/01/2020 22:39

Or that I see Rory as unisex?

AngusDuck · 22/01/2020 22:40

Wasn’t the blonde woman in Scrubs called Elliot?

littlejalapeno · 22/01/2020 22:41

Strong names are unusually monosyllabic and don’t end with a vowel sound.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/01/2020 22:41

I like Ingrid for a strong girls' name.
