My husband came to me and said he loves the name Pepper and I do actually really like it!

What do you think?

I'm guessing everyone's going to say noGrin

OP posts:

You're very defensive, OP. Apparently you can't take a bit of criticism from randoms online, but it's fine for your child to be saddled with teasing for life.

If you cared about the child's wellbeing, you'd give it a conventional name, but use Pepper as a nickname. That way, it always has a choice. What is your motivation for saddling it with a name that may be a constant embarrassment? It's putting your own need for validation before the child's welfare.

PPopsicle · 14/01/2020 11:15

Why not have pepper has a middle name?
That way it can work as a nickname but the child can easily just revert to their first name when older if they want?

It’s really unusual and I don’t think, like you say, when you’re child is older they will all have similarly rare names, in fact it is more ‘old fashioned’ names that are coming back into fashion

TeenPlusTwenties · 14/01/2020 14:24

Call her Pippa. Then let your DS accidentally caller her Pepper and let it stick as a nickname.

MummytoCSJH · 14/01/2020 14:30

The OP has already decided so no idea why she bothered posting. Also doesn't understand/ can't take jokes Grin

inwood · 14/01/2020 14:33

It was my dog's name when I was growing up so urm, no.

notthemum · 14/01/2020 14:38

Would never have considered it do really like it. But kids and parents can be cruel and could end up with Peppa pig right through school.

JeffreyJefferson · 14/01/2020 14:41

pig

Scautish · 14/01/2020 14:43

Will she have an older brother called Sultan?

If not I think it’s fine - it’s a name not to be sneezed at.

SoftBlocks · 14/01/2020 14:47

There’s a Spanish version spelt ‘Pepa’, which I think is nicer. It’s less cutesy/ pet name than the ‘Pepper’ spelling imo.

74NewStreet · 14/01/2020 14:50

It doesn’t matter how it’s spelt, it’s associated with a cartoon pig.
May as well call the child Pinky or Perky. Or Porky...

notthemum · 14/01/2020 14:54

OMG.
I have never seen American horror film, but have just seen the post with the picture. Please ignore my previous post and come up with something else.

SueEllenMishke · 14/01/2020 14:57

everyone in that generation when they are adults will all have names like 'Pepper' and 'Bluebell' etc. It's the normal now so your point is invalid

No they don't.

TopOftheNaughtyList · 14/01/2020 14:58

The name of my DB's dog. That and the association to Peppa Pig would rule it out for me personally.

CrotchetyQuaver · 14/01/2020 15:01

The name pepper makes me think of pigs, cats, dogs and horses.

Could you compromise on Pippa?

fantasmasgoria1 · 14/01/2020 15:06

I like it! Piper is also nice but pippa/philippa is just no!

Proseccopeach · 14/01/2020 15:11

Isn’t Pepper the cute kid in Annie?

Toddlerteaplease · 14/01/2020 15:20

We had a cat called pepper. Just don't do it!

XXcstatic · 14/01/2020 17:32

Let's hope poor Pepper is a lot more tolerant of teasing Hmm

BabyB19 · 14/01/2020 17:49

Love it, it's on my list if I have a girl. 🥰

DickDewy · 14/01/2020 18:27

Only if the world is only populated by a certain, er, type.

Tbf, I’d judge the parents that burdened their child with the idiotic ‘Bluebell’ just as much Grin

Crocky · 14/01/2020 18:30

It’s a name I love from marvel but would never consider giving to a child.

nellyburt · 14/01/2020 18:50

I know a pepper. She gets a lot of negative comments both to her face and behind her back so I wouldn't.

nellyburt · 14/01/2020 18:54

Is it half term already?

LTEMercedes · 14/01/2020 18:56

I think it's fairly cute but we used to own a horse called Pepper which would rule it out to me.

Would be an unusual and brave choice, but if you like it... why not? :)

Bouledeneige · 14/01/2020 20:07

I quite like it but the pig thing would probably stop me.

I met a white guy called Chilli once. He was cool so I thought the name was.
