Talk me out of 'Darwin'

DH and I really struggle to agree on names. I'm watching a documentary on Charles Darwin because I'm cool and suggested it to DH, who actually bloody loves it!
Now I'm in a bind. I do really like it, and it's one of few names so far we've agreed on, but I don't know if I'm brave enough to actually name a child this.

No to Darwin.

17caterpillars1mouse · 10/01/2020 20:26

I know a little girl called Darwin. She's 4

Starbonnet123 · 10/01/2020 22:59

I like it , go for it . Its different without being too out there

SunbeamsOverhead · 10/01/2020 23:05

Erm I know it's a majorly important scientific theory, but Darwinism was actually pretty racist.
That would put me off 🤷🏻‍♀️

pallisers · 10/01/2020 23:17

I worked with a Darwin (in the US). He was lovely. Really great. One of his children was called Maverick or maybe Stetson. He was from the west though.

I like Darwin despite myself tbh.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/01/2020 01:19

I actually quite like it, surprisingly! I usually have quite a conservative taste (although I watched a Miss Marple the other day and thought Amyas sounded nice, so I might be having a funny week!).

I don't think I could though, just in case he hated or wasn't good at science.

theendoftheendoftheend · 11/01/2020 01:20

It's a great name!

DramaAlpaca · 11/01/2020 01:21

I'm not usually keen on surnames as first names, but I quite like Darwin.

FramingDevice · 11/01/2020 22:14

A friend of mine comes from Darwin, which she describes as 'the dullest place on the planet, unless you really like fishing'.

theneighbourswindchime · 11/01/2020 22:24

What if he grew up and wanted to be a vicar!!?

Rev Darwin

.... awkward

PlantPotting · 11/01/2020 22:33

Good suggestion @Barre

EvilPea · 12/01/2020 08:38

If my history serves me well on this I understand Darwin was quite heavily into Christianity.

MikeUniformMike · 12/01/2020 13:29

It's ok but a bit unusual.

mum2jakie · 12/01/2020 13:32

Amazing World of Gumball is my first thought!

BasilOfBakerStreet · 12/01/2020 14:31

Okay guys this is great, thank you. The rest of you were, frankly, useless. USELESS.
Darwin is off the table.
