What are people’s thoughts on this name? We really like it but just worried out Elmo/Elmer the elephant connotations.

Awful.

SemperIdem · 31/12/2019 21:54

Dreadful.

I went to school with one in the 1990’s. Strange kid with even stranger parents. I remember them well and not in a good way.

SlightlyStaleCocoPops · 31/12/2019 21:54

Fudd. (And yes I know it's Elmer, but...)

Knittedfairies · 31/12/2019 21:58

It's either a patchwork elephant's name, or glue.

Omashu · 31/12/2019 22:01

We’re Sesame Street fans in our house so I just hear Elmo.

Louise91417 · 31/12/2019 22:01

Immediately thought "sesame street"Confused

HoneybeeB · 31/12/2019 22:01

A work colleague had a little girl and named her Elma. I have to say I think it's god awful and wonder what on earth she was thinking.
It's not a pretty name or a strong name. Just ugly.

FluffyEggsontoast · 31/12/2019 22:03

I like Alma

GrannyHaddock · 31/12/2019 22:03

I have to agree with everyone so far

orcadolph · 31/12/2019 22:04

Hmm maybe we need to go back to the drawing board, thanks though everyone!

How about Alana

FluffyEggsontoast · 31/12/2019 22:05

Clara?

orcadolph · 31/12/2019 22:06

Our other thought is Verity (completely different I know)

OP posts:
HoneybeeB · 31/12/2019 22:08

Verity is just as awful in my opinion. But slightly better Hmm

Andsbk · 31/12/2019 22:09

Still ugly.... 🙄

goldenorbspider · 31/12/2019 22:10

I like it, seems I'm in the minority. What about Etta?

MirriMazDuur · 31/12/2019 22:15

I like Verrity. What about Edita?

TheoneandObi · 31/12/2019 22:17

Kill the wabbit

FREEM · 31/12/2019 22:20

common in Scotland for woman in 60s + to be called Elma
I think its short for margaret

FluffyEggsontoast · 31/12/2019 22:25

I like verity @orcadolph

How about Margaret (Maggie)
Clementine (clemmie)
Edith (Edie)
Ottilie (Ottie)
Delilah

Anotherusefulname · 31/12/2019 22:25

How about Elva? Similar type sound maybe.

BlouseAndSkirt · 31/12/2019 22:28

I really like Verity.

orcadolph · 31/12/2019 22:31

Thanks everyone. I like traditional names (except Elma but looks like that one might get ruled out now!) but haven’t come across any more that we both really like. Still have lots of time though 🙂

Thelma is nice?

user1493494961 · 31/12/2019 22:46

Verity's OK. Thelma is awful (as bad as Elma).
