Do you like the name Seven for a girl?

My husband and I are curious as to how the first name Seven would be for a girl. The number is significant to us biblically and means the number of completeness, as she will be completing our family. There are many other reasons behind Seven.

Is it too out there, or is it cool?

Thanks for any input! Smile

name of a Borg drone in Star Wars this hurts my head.

Anyway, no. Not kind to your child.

Teal... Again no. Really will make your child's life harder.

Gemma is nice. And a bit retro at the moment. Due a comeback!

Lweji · 30/12/2019 08:57

I think of the movie (Too old for you?), so definitely a NO!

GrannyBags · 30/12/2019 08:57

I like Gemma, although I prefer the Jemma spelling. If you still wanted a Biblical link then how about Jemima?

EmpressLesbianInChair · 30/12/2019 08:58

Surely Gemma’s due a comeback?

PineappleDanish · 30/12/2019 08:59

No, because Seven is not a name. It is a number.

PurpleDaisies · 30/12/2019 09:00

Teal is worse than Seven.

Yurona · 30/12/2019 09:01

Only if you are seriously into star trek, and want everybody to ask you if you ran out if names at child nr 7....

Kaykay066 · 30/12/2019 09:03

She’d be constantly asked where 8 is
Nah it’s awful
As a name for a person or animal imo

Toffeecakes · 30/12/2019 09:04

I didn't think you could come up with a worse alternative, then you threw 'Teal' in there...

Make a list of names of people you know, that might give you an idea of what is typical in your area. Then your kid might have a chance of a name that fits in.

I'm always really confused as to why people name children ridiculous things because they have some significance to them. When the child is having to constantly explain their name they won't care what sentimental significance it had to their parents.

Lweji · 30/12/2019 09:04

Gemma is fine.

NameOfYourSexTape · 30/12/2019 09:08

What about Seren

chocolate26 · 30/12/2019 09:09

I actually like it! I like the way it sounds but I'm not sure I would use it because of it being the number "seven"

Babybel90 · 30/12/2019 09:09

Seven, Teal or Gemma? What sort of medication are you on?

KindnessCrusader · 30/12/2019 09:12

I love it because the meaning is so special to you Smile

LizziesTwin · 30/12/2019 09:17

@Clafairymon See my correction immediately under. I had to check as I’m not a fan, my German dog owning friends are!

MissBarbary · 30/12/2019 09:19

Gemma is fine. Makes me think of Gemma Arterton , who is beautiful and a good actress.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 30/12/2019 09:23

How ridiculous .

All those saying "I quite like it" . Its a number !

AlessandraBumbrosio · 30/12/2019 09:23

Teal is pretty. Gemma is safe.

Onacleardayyoucansee · 30/12/2019 09:23

It doesn't have much meaning.
Maybe lucky 7?
A number seems so reductive and basic for a human.

It sounds nice to say though.
Seven.
Agree with PP Seren has the same nice sound.

Hellbentwellwent · 30/12/2019 09:24

Teal cannot seriously be a family name? How many generations have used it?

slipperywhensparticus · 30/12/2019 09:24

I'm thinking if Monica Geller

changeorendure · 30/12/2019 09:25

No I don't.

I agree with the anthropologist Kate Fox's analysis that people giving their children 'unique' names are part of the 'eccentric sheep' movement. You are just part of a common tribe giving children 'unique' names, and thinking you are terribly unique to do so. Its just a current social trend - not unique and freethinking at all.

I too thought up 'unique' and wonderful names for my unborn child - the best advice I got on mumsnet was from someone who said all the unique names she thought of when pregnant seemed ridiculous when faced with her real life child. Names that are cute for helpless babes are not so great as adults either.

MrsBungle · 30/12/2019 09:26

Teal isn’t nice imo. Seven is awful. Seren is lovely and sounds like seven?

AJPTaylor · 30/12/2019 09:26

I think Gemma is a long way off a comeback.
Ada made a come back last year. Both my great grandmothers were named Ada, in 1890 And 1896.

CosmoK · 30/12/2019 09:29

George Costanza is that you??

No, it's a number not a name
