For DSIS and her DH, not me Grin

Their shortlist is the following (if they have a girl):
Apple
Jules
Indie (BC- Indigo or India)
Jemima
Alexa (Lexi- NN)
Echo

If they have a boy, they’re going for Bear so no suggestions needed there.

Can you say what you think of the options and give suggestions of what they might like?

Are they joking? Alexa and Echo?

I know a y3 class that has Alexa and Siri in it 🙂

skatingalley · 28/12/2019 19:16

@annabell22
Well obviously not both names together Grin I think they think of an Echo as what it actually is, not the voice controllable Amazon thing Grin

The list is so wildly varied it’s hard to get an idea of what they like.

Jemima is quite mainstream.

Indie is nice (though I’d spell it Indi): getting more common. Joe Wickes’ daughter is Indi.

Jules great but usually short for Julia, Julie or Juliet.

Apple is awful.

Can’t do Alexa or Echo as PP has edplained

MrsJoshNavidi · 28/12/2019 19:20

Apple - fruit. Not a name.

Jules - only ok if used as a nn for Julie/Julia

Indie (BC- Indigo or India) India is nice. Indigo is a boy's name

Jemima - ok

Alexa (Lexi- NN) I like this, though the "other" Alexa may have made it unusable now

Echo a) not a name and b) see above.

Spoonsmum · 28/12/2019 19:26

One of the kids in Dds old primary class was Indigo and is female. Suited her, I think it’s pretty

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 28/12/2019 19:29

Apple.. awful
Jules.. ok
Indie (BC- Indigo or India)... really like especially short for indigo (which is a definitely a girls name btw Inigo is the boys name)
Jemima.. love
Alexa (Lexi- NN).. no
Echo.. awful

MerryGrinch · 28/12/2019 19:51

I know two female Indigos and two female Indies and a boy Indie so they're not unusual to me! (also a boy Inigo)

Jemima is by far the nicest name of your dsis list.

Bear is just clichéd.

Doilooklikeatourist · 28/12/2019 19:58

Apple It’s a fruit
Jules Ok if short for Julia / Julie
Indie (BC- Indigo or India) India is nice
Jemima Good choice
Alexa (Lexi Nn ) Alexandra is better
Echo Not a name

Bear Not a name , but a NN for Edward

bridgetreilly · 28/12/2019 20:06

Apple Alexa Echo.

Baby can be sponsored from birth. Set up the instagram account now.

CloudyVanilla · 28/12/2019 20:06

I think Apple is cute but I don't think I could use it as a name. And I'm not usually one to say stuff like that.

I really don't like Jemima it seems very frumpy to me Blush

Indie is alright as is Echo. I quite like Echo actually. Yes I do.

Don't like Jules, I wouldn't name a child of this time period Alexa but I do like Lexi.

Suggestions based off of their list:

Olive
Loveday
Navy
Hazel
Briony
Juno

TabbyMumz · 28/12/2019 20:11

All pretty embarrassing names in my opinion, including Bear. Poor child is going to be massively picked on.

Boireannachlaidir · 28/12/2019 20:16

Pretty awful if this is for real.

Based on those names, perhaps they'd like:

Sony
Samsung
Blackberry
Raspberry (pi)
Purple

Boireannachlaidir · 28/12/2019 20:17

I almost forgot... Virtue.

Has a lovely ring to it.

Persephione · 28/12/2019 20:40

I think all these names are super beautiful! I would be wary of Alexa and Echo for the tech reasons mentioned above, I just think it might get super annoying for the kid eventually. But Lexi on it's own is beautiful!
Apple is super cool, very celebrity inspired
Indie is also pretty but I meet a lot of dogs named indie.
Jemima and Jules are more mainstream but nice because they are not too common. I personally love Jules the most because of its gender neutrality and it just sounds so cool!

A few more options to consider kinda inspired by your options:
Blue
Cecelia
Fable
Jamie
Kinley
Maven
Riley
Sage
Snow
Simone
Winika

Good luck!

skatingalley · 28/12/2019 20:57

@Persephione
Thank you very much! Will pass them on.

@CloudyVanilla Also very helpful, I think I would agree tbh with the tech issue but I’ll pass it all onto DSIS!

I have a feeling she will quite like Hazel and Navy.

@Boireannachlaidir @TabbyMumz
Fair enough if they aren’t to your taste. In our circles plenty of children have names similar to the ones DSIS likes. Many of my teen/adult DC and DSC have friends with those names. One of the DC’s best friend is called India, another is called Jemima and we know a couple of teens with the name Jules (one short for Julia and one just Jules) and an Echo.

Know plenty of Bears too and children with similar sorts of names (think River, Teddy (not as a NN) etc)
I don’t think they’ve ever really been picked on for their names and I used to speak to their parents very regularly Confused

Echo is a name from Greek Mythology, although not an especially nice story.

MopsRUs · 28/12/2019 21:08

Indigo and Jemima are the nicest.

Adele (Della)
Pearl
Zena
Aurora
Xanthe
Olive
Ria
Electra
Violet
Talia
Rowan
Lena
Scarlett
Juniper

TatianaLarina · 28/12/2019 21:37

Apple is just copying Gwyneth Paltrow and Steve Jobs. Bear is copying Cheryl Cole and Bear Grylls. Why not step away from celebrities and technology for names?

Jemima and Alexa are the best.

Winterdaysarehere · 28/12/2019 21:42

What about Athena?

EggysMom · 28/12/2019 21:54

Apple Fruit.
Jules Verne? Boy's name to me.
Indie I can only ever hear it as short for Indiana Jones
Jemima Ragdoll on Play School but the only one acceptable to me!
Alexa A home device
Echo Different type of home device

Spartonian · 28/12/2019 22:07

Aztec
Storm
Kyza
Kaleria
Romelie
Kiandra
Arya
Riviera
Mekia
Azariah
Ember
Lux
Sapphire

Poorolddaddypig · 29/12/2019 01:36

Where I live (not UK) Echo is a very common name! I love it! And Jemima is gorgeous too!

Poorolddaddypig · 29/12/2019 01:38

What about Juniper? Or Juno? Or Lyra?

Poorolddaddypig · 29/12/2019 01:40

oohh I hate Bear though! It’s really trying hard to be unique but suddenly very common. Bit celeb and naff

TildaTurnip · 29/12/2019 01:48

Celeb and tech inspired - too much so possibly.

Raphaela (Rafi)
Calliope
Anouk
Juniper (Juno)
Juliet (Jules)
Fern
