For DSIS and her DH, not me Grin

Their shortlist is the following (if they have a girl):
Apple
Jules
Indie (BC- Indigo or India)
Jemima
Alexa (Lexi- NN)
Echo

If they have a boy, they’re going for Bear so no suggestions needed there.

Can you say what you think of the options and give suggestions of what they might like?

Bear? Seriously? Do they know that Bear Grylls name is actually Edward?

Puffyrounded · 29/12/2019 06:15

I like Indie and Lexi the most.

How about Inca, Anouk, Inez or Isra?

I would avoid Echo as the story is not a nice one.

Jules and Jemima seem a little dated.

Apple is clearly a celebrity copy.

CircleofWillis · 29/12/2019 06:42

How about

Pandora
Celestial
Baum (German for Tree)
Arbor (Latin for tree)
Tree
Tulip
Earth
Ačiū (Lithuanian - meaning a feeling of thankfulness)
Monsoon
Star
Brienne

And if I ever had another girl I would go for the names from Beowulf that my DH vetoed last time.
Hygd and Wealhtheow, possibly together.

CircleofWillis · 29/12/2019 06:43

(NN Higgy)

Alexa and echo?

Alexa was nice until the technology.

Apple is just ridiculous and she will get tormented her who life!

Jules makes me think of horse riders and floral coats

Jemima doesn't suit the rest they have picked.

I guess of this list Alexa lol

I feel like they want to give it a statement name.

Whatsyourflava · 29/12/2019 08:49

I like Jemima best

Girls names suggestions (mostly outside the top 100)

Edith / Edie
Margaret /Maggie
Clementine/ Clemmie
Roxanne/Roxanna
Pearl
Delilah
Ottilie (Ottie)
Cora
Eliza
River
Winter
Holly

emilybrontescorsett · 29/12/2019 11:01

Is this real?
Seriously.
Echo
Alex's
Apple.
Why not Mac book
Or
IPad

I'm sure a kid will live being called these names.

skatingalley · 29/12/2019 20:53

@emilybrontescorsett
The names and words were around before the technology was.

But they’re so heavily associated now with them that that will be many’s first thought.

skatingalley · 29/12/2019 21:00

Perhaps with Apple, I actually told my DSIS that but she disagrees Grin

I don’t think most people have Echos or Alexas though. I didn’t even make the Echo connection for a minute and whilst Alexas are becoming increasingly popular, it’s more of a recognised, ‘normal’ name.

Apple, Alexa and Echo are a total no go in my opinion.
India and Indigo are nice and Indie is a lovely diminutive. Jemima is nice but feels very different to her other choices. I went to school with an Apollonia which has a similar vibe to Apple but not so ‘celeb’

I don’t think Bear would be made fun of but it’s a bit eye roll. Each to their own though.

CircleofWillis · 29/12/2019 21:29

Oops, sorry OP were you being serious? I thought you were having fun and joined in. 😂

Cbeebiesrehab · 29/12/2019 21:30

Oh and Jules makes me either think of the brand or a middle aged woman who is friends with Bridget Jones-sorryBlush

emilybrontescorsett · 29/12/2019 21:30

Yes lots of words have been around before but you would be an idiot to consider them as a good name for a child.

missmouse101 · 29/12/2019 21:33

Indigo is lovely. The rest are awful, as is Bear.
