We’ve done unusual, but what old names do you rarely hear now?

I’ll start with Gary.

I know an adult Gary but no little Gary’s.

Samantha. Again I know adults but not little ones.

Oh that’s interesting! I do like David and Victoria Mitchell but just can’t picture a four-year-old Barbara, I wonder whether the name had any special meaning or significance to them.

Looking through all these names I really like: Laura, Jennifer, Rachel, Claire, Josephine, Vanessa, Elizabeth, Hannah and Sarah

I plan on calling my DD Georgina, where I'm from I haven't heard it in years.

soulrunner · 29/12/2019 23:35

Dd(7)’s Bf is Georgina, but I think she’s one of only 2 in the ( big) school, so you’re right, it’s not common. I really like it.

I used to work in a medical records office a long time ago. Dealing with the long expired (dead patients or ones that had moved away and and left their files unpulled for years.) It was the most boring job I ever had. One of the ways of making interesting was trying to guess people's birthdates from their names. (it was a REALLY boring job)

Got quite good at it after a while. Lost the skill now but I could usually place someone to 10 years.

Mine and my children’s names have all been mentioned! Haha!

I was at Uni in the 90s with a Sandra and thought it was old fashioned even then. I know children called Ian, Brian, Martina and Nicola

Okay, all Corrie names under 60 and over 25.

When I was a kid everyone was named Cathy, Susan, Debbie, or Ann. And if they weren’t, their sisters were. Also a fair few Margarets & Jennifers.

Are boys named Michael lately? I know a load of middle-aged Mikes and Kens, but no little ones.

It's a long time since I saw the name Philip. The youngest one I know would be mid 20s now.

Shockers · 30/12/2019 05:59

I know a 14 yr old Philip.

Danglingmod · 30/12/2019 07:28

Yeah, Mikey, Bill (Billy) etc are still around.
