We’ve done unusual, but what old names do you rarely hear now?

I’ll start with Gary.

I know an adult Gary but no little Gary’s.

Samantha. Again I know adults but not little ones.

And Jason I think might come back round-it sounds like Jayden, Kaden, Mason, all those kind of names...

I love the name Colin, but nobody else seems to like it! And I have only ever met one, in his 50s...

I'd love to see both of those back!

They are back. I know preschoolers and primary-aged these.

I'm in my 50s.
My classmates were Karen, Rachel, Beverley, Heidi, Lynn, Lynda/Linda, Stephanie, Helen, Julie, Julia, Laura.
My Mum's generation: Barbara, Pamela, Carol, Heather, Sylvia, Celia, Beryl, Judith, Angela,
I don't know or have heard of any small children with these names (except Barbara Coren-Mitchell).

I was thinking the other day how amazing it is that I don’t know any little Catherines (or variations) - no exaggeration, every second woman in my neighbourhood aged 35-50 is called Catherine.

ThighThighOfthigh · 27/12/2019 19:49

I'm glad we don't hear of Gary and Samantha for babies these days. Same with Tracey, Sharon and, up to a point, Debbie (Deborah), Lorraine and Michelle. Nothing wrong with the last four really but they became so overdone at one time and we have a plethora of z list celebs/soap actors with those names. Adult of course.

Walter - my dad and granddad were Walters, glad I don't hear that any more.

When I was young there were a few Susans and I think Susan is a lovely name.
