We’ve done unusual, but what old names do you rarely hear now?

I’ll start with Gary.

I know an adult Gary but no little Gary’s.

Samantha. Again I know adults but not little ones.

They're really nice names, Underneaththetree though prefer 'Joanna' to 'Joanne'. I'm sure some people still call their babies Louise, Helen and Sarah.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/12/2019 20:06

In another 40 years people will probably be saying
"I haven't heard of any babies names Arthur Noah Oliver
Ava Isla Olivia Amelia.
If you think about it the names Chloe and Emily are already starting to die of death

I also feel that Alfie, Archie, Charlie type names are slowly falling out of fashion. They'll sound dated soon imo.

I know a young Joanna and a Christopher.

fartingsparkles · 28/12/2019 08:37

I know a Dean and a Christopher, both toddlers. I've a feeling lots of the names mentioned will pop up in the next decade. We tend to look back to the names of our grandparents generation and that's what w be coming!

Underneaththetree · 28/12/2019 10:00

Never met a Wendy of any age, wasn’t it more popular in America?

I also remember being told it was a made-up name for Peter Pan I don’t know if that’s true though.

If you judge popularity by the number of 'named' items you can buy with names on (lunchboxes, cups, toy trucks, decorations) then 'Andrew' has become a mightily unpopular name in England over recent years, even before the latest royal debacle.

GuyFawkesDay · 28/12/2019 10:36

Teacher here:

I've taught a Colin, Trevor, Keith, Neil. No Gary though.

A few Jennifers. And Rachels.

I think Jean/Joan type 1950s names will be back in soon. Alison, Sarah, Christopher, Paul type ones.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 28/12/2019 11:00

Neil seems to be more popular than I’d expect. DS (13) has two friends called Neil (and a further friend called Niall).

Amanda seems to have fallen out of favour though. All the ones I know are 40+

MimiCaeger · 28/12/2019 11:09

Michaela - loads in their late 20s/30s but I can’t think of any littlies
