Hi everyone, was wondering if anyone had any comments on the names Jamie or Luca for a girl and which you prefer? Thanks!

I prefer girls names for girls personally.

MrsAgassi · 18/12/2019 14:53

I’d probably choose Jamie though as my friend’s dog is called Luca.

In all honesty though I don’t like either.

AdoreTheBeach · 18/12/2019 14:56

Unless I wanted a gender neutral name (not either of these) I’d choose one. But these are mainly boys names so no, neither for a girl.

PineappleDanish · 18/12/2019 14:57

Those are both boys names.

dementedpixie · 18/12/2019 14:58

I wouldn't use either of them for a girl

MaggieFS · 18/12/2019 14:59

I've known a female Jaime, pronounced Jamie, but she was forever having to correct spelling and received post addressed to Mr. Luca is definitely a boy's name. No issue if you want to use either for a girl but she'd be forever explaining her name and as someone who's had to do that, I wouldn't inflict it on my child.

I know a Jamie and a Toni who are both girls and really like the names.

Doyoumind · 18/12/2019 15:04

They are known as boys names. I've never heard of a female Luca. Would you call a girl Luke because it's exactly that? I just think she would suffer with a name like that.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 18/12/2019 15:04

I wouldn't use either for a girl.

Bunnylady53 · 18/12/2019 15:10

I like Jamie for a girl

MurrayTheMonk · 18/12/2019 15:12

I've known girls called both and really like them both. Unusual but nice.

Ohyesiam · 18/12/2019 15:12

I have a name whose shortening is very similar to a boy’s name in the accent of the place we moved to when I was 4.
My family and I never used this shortenings but other people and teachers always did, and I spent my childhood being told I had a boy’s name.
I was admittedly a sensitive child, but what I heard was “ you are not feminine enough and a bit ugly”.
Unless you are both stunning and she is going to be super cute, I wouldn’t give her ( what others will see as) a boy!s name.

Frazzlerock · 18/12/2019 15:14

I've only heard of Jaime for a girl, never Jamie.
Not sure about Luca. I do know a little boy called Luca and like it as a boy's name

PremierNaps · 18/12/2019 15:31

Neither. Both are boys names.

BertrandRussell · 18/12/2019 15:35

Neither. Give her a girl’s name.

reginafelangee · 18/12/2019 15:36

In the UK these are definitely boys names - especially Luca. If you live somewhere like the USA then go for it.

OverthinkingThis · 18/12/2019 15:46

I don't like Jamie for a girl, but I REALLY don't like Luca for a girl so on that basis I'm going to have to say Jamie.

DamnShesaSexyChick · 18/12/2019 15:47

Were you hoping for a boy?

justdoityourself · 18/12/2019 15:47

Neither since they are both boy's names (yes I know, Jamie Lee Curtis, but she got away with it because she was famous)

Wasail · 18/12/2019 15:55

Jaime is perfectly acceptable for a girl. I always thought Luca was a girls name ( from the song “my name is Luka) but was corrected later in life 🤷🏻‍♀️.

BertrandRussell · 18/12/2019 15:59

Jaime is only acceptable for a girl if you think it’s OK to give girls boy’s names. Oh, and Luca in the song was a boy!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 18/12/2019 16:00

Jaime (rather than Jamie) for a girl.

Not a fan of Luca.

Wasail · 18/12/2019 16:01

Luka in other song was a boy? I always assumed as it was sung by a woman it was a girl. And it was spelled Luka not Luca.

rubyismyworld · 18/12/2019 16:02

Prefer Jane and Lucia

Summergarden · 18/12/2019 16:02

I thought that Luca is one of the extremely rare Italian boys names that end in the generally feminine ‘a’ and have only known it to be a boys name for Italians so wouldn’t choose it for a girl. How about Lucia instead?

Jamie Lee Curtis springs to mind for a girl but in the U.K. I think it is far less usual for a girl.
