Could I have thoughts on my girl's shortlist please? I have a clear favourite but DH not being very helpful.
Middle name will potentially be Susanne for family reasons. (DM is Susan and MIL is Ann)
DS is Louie and surname is unusual and 2 syllables. Thank you.

Clara
Maya
Myla
Beatrix
Lottie
Aria
Elsie
Adah
Evelyn
Etta
Ida
Hattie
Iris

I love Etta, Ida, Hattie and Iris.

I associate Lottie with a dogs name (which isn’t a problem as people have that with my DDs name) and Beatrix is ok but I prefer Beatrice I think. You’ll have to also like the name Bea as I think it would get shortened to this by friends when she’s older

dreichXmas · 14/12/2019 15:25

Hattie and Lottie strike me as nn rather than given names.
Other than those it seems a nice list.

PatchworkElmer · 14/12/2019 15:30

Ida

Peacefrog23 · 14/12/2019 15:30

My favourites from your list are maya and myla x

Sexnotgender · 14/12/2019 15:33

Clara love
Maya no
Myla no but Kyla is lovely, I used to work with one who was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met
Beatrix no
Lottie no
Aria hate
Elsie no
Adah terrible
Evelyn no
Etta love
Ida no
Hattie no
Iris love

Poorolddaddypig · 14/12/2019 15:47

Love your list!

Clara - beautiful
Maya - nice but too many
Myla - doesn’t compare to your other names, just not as nice
Beatrix - amazing name! I imagine a Beatrix to be feisty and cool
Lottie - it’s fine. Cute but a bit plain
Aria - Same as Myla. Just not on the same level as some of your other names. It’s pretty though.
Elsie - Cute!
Adah - I like biblical names but I’m not really sure about this one - isn’t it pronounced like Add-uh? If so it just makes me think of the snake
Evelyn - No, so many it’s become dull
Etta - cute!
Ida - also cute!
Hattie - I like this but I don’t like Harriet and for some reason, although I’m all for using nicknames as full names, it seems weird to me with Hattie. I feel like it has to be short for something!
Iris - lovely

Stayingstrong24 · 14/12/2019 15:48

Clara - My absolute favourite. If I was to have another DD this would be top of my list!
Maya - I like, but may cause confusion if you want the My-a pronunciation as the one I know gets mistaken for May-a.
Myla - Pretty. I haven't met one yet.
Beatrix - I prefer Beatrice.
Lottie - I have always liked this. I would probably have Charlotte on the birth certificate though.
Aria - Pretty, but becoming very popular and may be one of those "fad" names.
Elsie - Pretty and classic.
Adah - I like this but prefer it without the "h".
Evelyn - I like when pronounced Ev-lyn. Dislike Eve-lyn.
Etta - I love this. Also Ettie.
Ida - I quite like. My gran had a friend called this and I tend to like most names from that era.
Hattie - I like as a stand alone name.
Iris - Pretty.

Poorolddaddypig · 14/12/2019 15:48

I’d go for Beatrix or Clara

PsychosonicCindy · 14/12/2019 15:56

I really like Elsie, Iris, Lottie and Hattie (my guinea pigs name haha )
Myla is a robot unicorn toy.
Ida and Ada taking granny chic names too far.
Aria seems to be everywhere at the moment.

happylass · 14/12/2019 16:52

After reading @TheTrollFairy comment I was about to say that Lottie is pretty low on the list as surname starts with T so it doesn't flow very well. Then occurred to me that rules out Etta and Hattie too.Blush
Lots of positive comments about my favourite name which I'm loving! Thanks all.

Myla is my favourite from this list, so pretty

Moominfan · 14/12/2019 16:57

Etta easily

Paddingtonthebear · 14/12/2019 17:05

5 of these are in my DD’s class! Beatrix, Clara, Elsie, Hattie and Lottie.

Clara is probably my favourite in that list.

Jayneisapain · 14/12/2019 17:10

I like Maya best.

Myla and Adah sound made up.

Is Adah pronounced the same as Ada? Like ay-dah Or is it Ah-dah ?

Echobelly · 14/12/2019 17:28

Clara, Myla - Both nice
Maya, Evelyn, Ida, Iris - bit ubiquitous right now
Beatrix - nice, but will spend life correcting people's spelling of it
Lottie, Elsie, Hattie - all good, but I would officially give full name version so she has option when she's older to not have the diminutive
Aria - suddenly seems to be popular, fear it might get to sound a bit trashy
Adah - a bit popular in the Ada spelling, will have to correct spelling a lot
Etta - I do quite like this, maybe my favourite on the list

17caterpillars1mouse · 14/12/2019 18:36

Clara - I love Clara. I would definitely consider it if we were to have a third daughter

Maya - not a fan
Myla - I know a lovely, very fiesty 3 year old Myla but I just can't bring myself to like the name
Beatrix - like it, though I know 2 under two
Lottie - like as a nn but not as a full name. Always makes me think of the little girl in the little princess
Aria - really dislike, will date
Elsie - dislike
Adah - Ada is Meh, Adah is awful
Evelyn - gorgeous classical name but Evie's are everywhere
Etta - like it as a nn
Ida - pretty
Hattie - love as a nn for Harriet or Henrietta
Iris - love it, it clashes with my surname otherwise I probably would of used it

Staffori · 14/12/2019 22:40

Love Maya, Hattie,
Like Beatrix, Elsie, Iris, Evelyn,
Indifferent to Lottie, Aria

Dislike Myla, Adah, Etta, Ida
Hate: Clara

StanleyWalkersThirdWife · 14/12/2019 22:43

Clara - really like!
Maya - not to my personal taste but its fine
Myla - as above with maya
Beatrix - not keen
Lottie - really like but would personally use it as a nn for Charlotte
Aria - love
Elsie - dislike
Adah - dislike
Evelyn - nice enough but I'm not sure why it's so popular
Etta - quite nice!
Ida - dislike
Hattie - not keen but love harriet
Iris - love

ldnstb123 · 14/12/2019 23:33

Love Myla & Etta x

DramaAlpaca · 14/12/2019 23:35

I like Clara & Evelyn.

daisypond · 14/12/2019 23:36

Beatrix,Iris and Evelyn are the only ones I like. Clara is OK too. None of the others.

Astronica · 15/12/2019 01:22

I love Beatrix and Iris but not sure they sound good with Susanne in the middle. Still doable though. I like most of the others - Clara, Lottie, Elsie, Adah, Ida in particular. The only ones I don't like are Evelyn and Aria.

LarkDescending · 15/12/2019 01:44

Clara is the standout from your list - really lovely.

bionicnemonic · 15/12/2019 01:51

Mylar (pronounced like Myla) is a type of plastic sheeting

grisen · 15/12/2019 01:55

If we’d had a girl my top name would be Evelyn wouldn’t have to be Evie for short could be Eve.
