Could I have thoughts on my girl's shortlist please? I have a clear favourite but DH not being very helpful.
Middle name will potentially be Susanne for family reasons. (DM is Susan and MIL is Ann)
DS is Louie and surname is unusual and 2 syllables. Thank you.

Clara
Maya
Myla
Beatrix
Lottie
Aria
Elsie
Adah
Evelyn
Etta
Ida
Hattie
Iris

Clara, Maya, Myla- not keen
Beatrix- love, I know of 2 little Trixies
Lottie- nice but if it were me I’d go Charlotte on the BC. My dd has a ‘proper name’ but always goes by her NN
Aria- not keen
Elsie- pretty
Adah- I like it but never seen it with a h on the end
Evelyn- very pretty but popular here
Etta- like it but feels like a NN
Ida- love, it’s a family name and would use myself dp permitting....
Hattie- my dogs name, love it. Would’ve used it for dd3 had she come before the dog!
Iris- lovely, I love that all these are coming back

Lovely list OP, not too dissimilar to mine!

Bananablueberry · 15/12/2019 02:06

Clara is my favourite. I know sisters called Clara and Suzanna so I think the names go well together

PlantPotting · 15/12/2019 06:09

Vote for Clara or Elsie

Hatscarfandgloves · 15/12/2019 09:50

Clara - gorgeous, classic and underused
Maya - nice. I'd say my -a, I know others would say may-a, that would put me off
Myla - really don't like, nothing attractive about it imo
Beatrix - lovely, gorgeous name
Lottie - it's ok as a NN for Charlotte, I don't like it as a stand-alone
Aria - I really like this but I like opera! Otherwise I think it's a bit of a Marmite name
Elsie - lovely. I like it more as a NN for Elspeth but it is still lovely on its own
Adah - spelling really puts me off, it's so deep South cotton plantation. Ada is lovely
Evelyn - ok but so popular I find it boring
Etta - not keen
Ida - ok
Hattie - I love this but prefer it as a NN for Harriet
Iris - lovely but very popular

I would go for Beatrix, Elsie or Clara.
I would avoid Myla, Lottie or Adah with that spelling.

My top 3 from your list are Evelyn, Iris and Clara.

miahadalittlelamb · 15/12/2019 10:01

Like Clara and Beatrix (prefer Beatrice) and iris

SebandAlice · 16/12/2019 16:34

Love Iris

FizzyGreenWater · 16/12/2019 16:52

Beatrix is the one that stands out. Lots of the others are a bit nothing - your typical vowel-soundy four-letter slightly-made-up sounding blah: Adah, Myla, Aria, Maya. They have zero personality.

Like Hattie and Lottie but I'd assume they're nicknames. And a bit twee with the 'ee' of Louie.

Beatrix or Beatrice!

FizzyGreenWater · 16/12/2019 16:54

Also - Etta, Ida: granny chic, and that's had its day now. These kind of names will date to a generation like nothing else - they'll go right out of fashion in the way Kelly Lisa Gemma and Kirsty sloped off together, not to be seen for another 30 years!

passthetea · 16/12/2019 16:56

Love Hattie, Lottie and Elsie and all go with middle name ❤️

RandDandC · 16/12/2019 17:15

Clara - beautiful
Maya - always loved this name, timeless too
Myla - me-la yes my-la no
Beatrix - cute
Lottie - prefer this as nn for Charlotte
Aria - gorgeous name I’ve loved for years but becoming popular
Elsie - gorgeous
Adah - Ada?
Evelyn - Eve-Lyn or Ev-eh-Lyn?
Etta - lovely
Ida - prefer Ada
Hattie - no
Iris - classic and lovely name

midsomermurderess · 16/12/2019 20:39

Clara is by far my favourite.

happylass · 17/12/2019 06:50

Thanks all. Adah was actually a typo. No idea why the h is there Blush
I'll admit Clara is and always has been my clear favourite. Glad to see so many positive comments about it Grin.
Iris would probably be my second choice. All the others are names I like but could find a reason for not using....
Now I just need to convince DH....

Clara is lovely.
I have an Iris so biased and another child whose name is the original version of Elsie. Had I had another daughter, she would have been Beatrix.
Hattie is nice but use Harriet.
What about Henrietta? Then you could have Etta, Hennie, Hettie.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 17/12/2019 07:24

Clara. Lovely
Maya. Ok
Myla Ok
Beatrix Nice
Lottie. Only as a nn for Charlotte
Aria. Nice
Elsie. Nice
Ada. Ok
Evelyn love
Etta. Love
Ida. Ok
Hattie only as a nn for Harriet
Iris Love

MamaDane · 17/12/2019 07:35

Love Ida but where I'm from it's pronounced ee-da and not eye-da and I'm not keen on that version.

Otherwise Clara and Iris are both lovely if those are your favourites.

Maya is a bit plain, I prefer Mia.

Myla, Beatrix, Lottie and Hattie are a no from me.

The rest are great names.
