For no other reason than i'm a nosy bugger. I was wondering what names you have seen grow in popularity this year, have there been any surprises?

So one boys name and one girls.

Boy - Ralph / Ralphie

Girl - Luna

Ticklemeelmo · 16/12/2019 16:24

I know of two baby girls called Emmy born in the last few months, not sure if that is part of a wider trend though

Ellmau · 17/12/2019 20:21

Elodie seems to be on the rise. I'd never heard of it 18 months ago.

paperandfireworks · 19/12/2019 11:20

Fiadh, Martha, Caoimhe

“Not sure if it’s part of a wider trend though”

Exactly!

Sorry I know I’m being silly but if you want to know the fastest rising names last year they were published by the office of national statistics. Who also did a separate top 100 chart divided into regions of the Uk. So if you want to see what’s top 10 in your region- loom there. Alternatively tell us which region of the country you live in so that people close by can comment.

I’m really confused what this post is trying to achieve when you say you’re trying to avoid a popular name “in your area” but haven’t told us what that area is!

Like others have said, if you want a super unusual name, look outside the top 250 names. Easy.

There was 2 threads recently on the “most popular girls names in your circle” and “most popular boys names in your circle” - which you can look at if you want but looking at the stats and charts themselves will be much more helpful.

My boys name is on here but he’s 11 so I had it before it was popular Wink

PlantPotting · 19/12/2019 12:02
  • sorry I’ve commented on the wrong thread OP I can see you’ve said you’re only interested out of curiosity Sorry I got this mixed up with another thread where the OP said she was trying to avoid popular names in her area but didn’t say what that area was

MN please feel free to delete my silly rant above! It’s not even relevant 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Boireannachlaidir · 19/12/2019 12:12

Rupert, Evangeline, Grace, Harry...

GingerBeverage · 24/12/2019 05:55

This year I've known 2 new Autumns and 2 Quinns

Adelais · 24/12/2019 09:37

I was browsing some recent birth announcements on another parenting site and saw that amongst the baby boys born there’s were a lot of Arthur’s, Theodore, Ruebans and surprisingly Otis’s!
The girls were a bit more varied but there were several Arias which I think is a new name gaining popularity.

solange79 · 26/12/2019 11:51

Theo, Otis, Otto, Roman, Ralph/Ralphie, Hunter

Luna, Aria, Mabel, Ivy and still Eva/Ava etc

WaterSheep · 26/12/2019 15:02

PlantPotting

Coming back to the thread I was so confused by your rant. Grin I admit i'm nosy and like to see what names others have encountered.

Boys names definitely don't feel as varied as the girls, but I suspect that's always been the case.

It's interesting that others are also encountering lots little Lunas and Ralphies. A few years ago i'd not met a single one, and now BAM they're everywhere.

A family member just had a baby named Ralph.

Meanwhile a family car is called Luna and a friend's dog is called Ralph.

WaterSheep · 26/12/2019 20:40

A car called Luna? Or a cat? Grin DoTheNextRightThing

LOTS of Arias around at the moment for girls. And a lot of Teddys.

SumAndSubstance · 27/12/2019 14:57

I can’t walk to the village without falling over a little Felicity or two.

DoTheNextRightThing · 27/12/2019 19:37

Oh goodness😂 yes a cat!!
