For no other reason than i'm a nosy bugger. I was wondering what names you have seen grow in popularity this year, have there been any surprises?

So one boys name and one girls.

Boy - Ralph / Ralphie

Girl - Luna

Matleavemadam A names is an interesting trend, perhaps they got bored of looking in the baby name book. Grin

Round here there seems to be a trend for the next generation of boys names, at least. So fewer Alfie Charlie Ronnie type names and more Christopher Sebastian Anthony type

I also feel the fashion for cutesy Alfie, Archie, Evie type names is coming to and end.

More solid names will become more popular eg Peter, Quentin, Roman, Rowan etc

This thread is really interesting. We're still deciding on a name for soon to be DS.

I think Arlo is lovely, but DH doesn't. I'm going to follow for ideas.

Oh definitely. Ralphie seems to be the exception to this, but it wasnt popular at the same time as the Alfie, Charlie, Archie, Albie era a few years ago.

@LolaSmiles if you like Arlo how about Milo or Hugo (or slightly more “out there” Otto)

@LolaSmiles what about Enzo?

Arlo is definitely on the rise so a good shout by previous posters.

Not sure about Ophelia, anyone else seen a surge babies with this name? I haven't encountered any this year. Smile

winky
Enzo is nice, but there's already one we know in passing and it might feel awkward with such a rare name in our area.

We tend to have a lot of Alfie Archie Henry names, mixed with Ezra, Enzo etc in our area.

I quite like Rohan, Nate etc too.
This thread is really good.

Sienna Rose (loads of them) and Evie (still very popular). Isabelle/a is also still in use.

It's harder to say for boys, as in my circles, baby boys seem to be being granted a much wider variety of names than baby girls. Cutesy names like Charlie and Teddy are still fairly popular, also Henry, Theo, George etc, but there seems to have been a surge in more traditional "dated" names recently like Michael and David.

@LolaSmiles Yeh I really love the name Nathan/Nate and am a bit annoyed at myself that I never thought to consider it for DS.

If you like Enzo ....how about Otto or Eli or Ellis or Lorenzo or Ernest (nn Ernie) or Ronnie.

All have a fairly similar feel to Enzo to me but maybe I’m totally off the mark with these suggestions.

All the Rohan’s I have met are Indian so I would assume the little girl or little boy with that name was Indian. Not that that matters of course. But I also don’t like inevitable nickname Ro/Roh, just sounds very unfinished. The H in the middle of Rohan might make it get less mixed up with all the ubiquitous little “Roman”s that have been born this year though. I myself would personally pick a less “trendy”/of the moment name. One that is less likely to get mixed up with others though. Ronan/Rohan etc all get called Roman at my work as Roman is the most popular of those names so people can’t help but assume the baby is RoMan.

I love classic names and also unusual names but I myself will try to avoid the trendy ones with next DC (I unfortunately made the mistake of picking a trendy name for DS that I regret now 🙈).

Out of interest, do people come across many baby Olivers? I know it's the most popular boys' name, but I don't know any baby Olivers and I love it!

My son has 5 Oliver/Ollies in his y7 class! You're right though, not heard many recent arrivals, but then i don't spend much time in baby groups etc anymore.

There are lots of Olivers and Ollies around but because it's a classic name it tends to be less noticable, same as Thomas.
Round here every second boy seems to be Finn/Finley/Flynn.
