Really having trouble agreeing on any names with my husband. baby boy is due in 12 weeks. Joining a sister (Willow). We want a strong masculinise name, nature-inspired ideally, but not essential. We came up with Heath the other day and agreed we both really like it. Not sure if I can trust myself and hormones though because we really like Fox too and i’m not sure if that’s totally ridiculous or not Grin goes remarkable well with our surname though. Not sure we’re brave enough!

Heath
Fox
Noah
Roman
Haydn
Rafe

Love Roman, but can’t convince husband. I don’t like Roman or Rohan though..

I mean I don’t like Rowan or Rohan!

I don’t like heath.

Noah is normal

I would pick between fox, rafe or Noah.

Fox is cool, but maybe for now... it’s used by hipsters more as a middle name.

Rafe is quite uppity but at least is more classic.

Depends what you’re looking for...
Normal? Statement? Or classic?

MissHenty · 25/11/2019 12:45

I really like Heath and Fox too. @Yorkshiredolls

Infact your list of names is great and any would sound good with Willow. The only name I’m not so sure of is Rowan as it’s too similar to Roman (With an M) and Rohan and as you can already see from the above post, the names always get mixed up. Roman is fastest rising boys name (currently top 50 but will be top 10/20 on current trajectory) so I’d personally avoid using a name so similar to such a popular name. There’s 2 Roman’s and 1 Rowan at my sons little nursery and the Rowan just ends up being called the third Roman!
I think a couple of years or so ago it wouldn’t have been a problem as neither name was that popular but that’s changed now.
I don’t like the fairly inevitable nickname Row either (Row Row Row your boat)

Rafe is cool.

Other nature type names you could use as a middle name:

Woody/Woodrow
Asher/Ash
Radley (red forest)
Fraser (strawberry flower)
Oakley
Gray/Grayson
Clay

The name Bodhi conjures up a free spirit type feeling and would sound good with Willow

Also like:

Rudi/Rudy
Rex
Eli
Ellis
Barnaby

Sorry I’ve just re-read your post and see that you’ve infact suggested the name Roman not Rowan/Rohan! Deary me... sorry I get so mixed up with those three names as you can see.

I actually prefer Roman to Rohan as I think the nickname Rome is nicer plus given that Roman is the most popular/common of the 3 names, people are more likely to assume correctly (ie that his name is RoMan)

But yes I probably still prefer the other names on your list. Hope my suggestions are helpful and not totally unwanted!

bridgetreilly · 25/11/2019 13:08

Heath is okay, though not my personal favourite. I don't think there are many good male nature names. I do like Noah from your list.

How about Ash or Brook?

TatianaLarina · 25/11/2019 13:15

I like Heath and Roman. Don’t like Rowan or Rohan.

Not keen on Fox (or Bear) and think they will date terribly.

Spoonsmum · 25/11/2019 13:21

Heath is excellent
I also like Fraser and Ash

MikeUniformMike · 25/11/2019 13:28

Heath. OK. Surname of former PM.
Fox - Willow and Fox sounds like a faux rustic home accessory company
Noah - ok, bit boring. I just see and hear No.
Roman - no. I like Rowan but not Roman or Rohan and not with Willow.
Haydn - Tarnished by the Jaiden/Kayden brigade.
Rafe - not keen.

Of the choices I'd probably choose Heath or Fox, but Fox is a bit more daring.

Flymetothestars · 25/11/2019 13:40

Nice name list! Were you looking for a name that’s slightly more unusual than Willow then this time?

Heath - nice name
Fox - nice name
Noah - nice name
Roman - don’t like - too similar to other popular names and is fastest rising boys name in top 100- a recipe to ‘date’ in the next ten years and become this generations Keith or Darren. I’m sure those names sounded lovely and fresh a few decades ago... now look!
I don’t think a name like Fox will date as badly seen as it’s still pretty rare so people may only know of one Fox (if you look at the statistics). Whereas there’s been an influx of Roman’s. Our local nursery is inundated. Very trendy.

Haydn - not sure. Don’t like
Rafe - nice. Not my favourite but ok.

VenusClapTrap · 25/11/2019 14:49

I like Heath.

How about:
Acer
Cairn
Flint

Butterfly005 · 25/11/2019 14:52

Love Noah and Rafe

MrsNoMopp · 25/11/2019 17:29

I like Heath best from your list and think it goes best with Willow.

bridgetreilly · 25/11/2019 18:17

Good point on and Fox [[https://willowandfox.co.uk/]].

bridgetreilly · 25/11/2019 18:17

Messed up that formatting! willowandfox.co.uk/

Yorkshiredolls · 25/11/2019 18:29

haha! thanks everyone. Not too concerned that my kids names might be associated with a furniture company in Essex,
not the association with ex-PM. surprised no ones mentioned Heath Ledger actually and his unfortunate untimely end, which doesn’t bother me. Yes shame about Haydn, it’s a family name which I do love but has been tarnished a bit

OP posts:
Yorkshiredolls · 25/11/2019 18:30

Haydn a possible middle name choice, but obviously not with Heath..

Leopardprintboots · 25/11/2019 20:08

Fox and Willow sounds cool AF @Yorkshiredolls

You’ve got a great list of names. Don’t really like Roman though. Agree with PP too trendy and similar to other trendy/faddy names.

I know Noah is popular but it’s got such a gorgeous sound to it. Are you waning a less common name than Willow this time around @Yorkshiredolls or are you not fussed about popularity?

Yorkshiredolls · 25/11/2019 20:15

@leopardprintboots we do both like Noah but it’s the popularity that puts my husband off. He doesn’t like Roman anyway so I think that’s off the cards. Willow wasn’t as popular as it is now when we chose it 4 years ago, it doesn’t bother me though

OP posts:
TatianaLarina · 25/11/2019 20:17

Heath and Willow are great together.

elderlee · 25/11/2019 20:21

I think all your names are great, I especially love Heath, Noah and Roman!

doritosdip · 25/11/2019 20:26

There's more than one way to spell Haydn which puts me off.
My 18yo Ds has the middle name Roman and he loves it.
Noah is too popular for my liking.
Heath makes me think of Heath Ledger Sad but you've said that it doesn't bother you.
Fox makes me think of Fox Mulder from the X Files. I personally love Sci-fi and think it's better than Bear which I hear more often.
Rafe is ok but not as good as your other choices imo.

Leopardprintboots · 25/11/2019 20:55

Understood @Yorkshiredolls

Rafe doesn’t pack a punch for me in the way that Ralph, Rafferty, Rory or Rupert does - are any of those any good?

Leopardprintboots · 25/11/2019 20:56

I think you should just brave it and pick Fox though really

17caterpillars1mouse · 25/11/2019 23:05

I really like Rafe but my autocorrect always changes it to Rape which made me take it off my list when pregnant :(

I also really like Heath, strong, masculine but nature inspired. Also well known (thanks Heath Ledger) but uncommon.

Noah is nice enough, though number 4 last year for popularity. I really don't like Roman
