Tabitha’s nickname

EleanorShellstrop100 · 24/11/2019 10:13

Baby Tabitha seems too small for her name at the moment, but there are just so many nicknames for Tabitha and we can’t choose one! We made the mistake of looking online for ‘possible nicknames for Tabitha’ and had no idea it would come up with so many that we liked... we’ve seen Abby, Bea, Beth, Betsy, and Kitty! And she’s so small and cute that she suits them all. I know it’s not a big deal but please help me to make up my mind!

My favourite would be kitty, because it’s just so cute!!

ipswichwitch · 24/11/2019 10:23

I know a Tabatha that gets shortened to Tabby which I think is lovely

MrsNoMopp · 24/11/2019 10:28

I'd associate those nicknames with Abigail, Beatrice, Elizabeth and Katherine. I'm not very keen on Tabby but as a nickname for Tabitha I prefer it to the others.

KateFoster · 24/11/2019 10:32

Bea is my favourite. Tabby would be the most obvious but not the most pretty

daisypond · 24/11/2019 10:37

Tibby?

Letthemysterybe · 24/11/2019 10:40

I think Tabby is the only nn that really
makes sense, and the only
One that will easily transfer back to Tabitha when she’s no longer teeny tiny.

Spied · 24/11/2019 10:41

Has to be Tabby really!
The others imo don't really 'go'. Id guess like a pp that they are short for other names.

Whyhaveidonethis · 24/11/2019 10:41

We have a Tabitha in the family. She's always been know as Tabs

Omashu · 24/11/2019 10:52

I agree that Tabby is the best!

Miljea · 24/11/2019 10:59

Tabby/Tabs. The other nicknames aren't associated with Tabitha.

youdeservebetter · 24/11/2019 11:01

Bibi I think is sweet x

Astronica · 24/11/2019 11:12

I love Tibby for Tabitha, and I also think all the others you've mentioned are great and work really well. I agree with pp that Bibi would also work. It's very hard to choose but maybe Bea, Tibby, Betsy or Kitty are my favourites. Sorry, no help in picking one! Such a lovely dilemma to have!

PlasticPatty · 24/11/2019 11:17

My rabbit Tabitha was Tabby for short. Tabby Rabbit.
TibTab.

Winterdaysarehere · 24/11/2019 11:18

Tabitha or why did you bother??
Sorry not being mean...

BlouseAndSkirt · 24/11/2019 11:20

Tabitha is lovely.

The one I know is Tabby but Bibi is lovely.

NNs usually evolve naturally.

MyNewBearTotoro · 24/11/2019 11:22

We initially used Tabby for my DD but her family nickname has now evolved into Beebee as that’s what her twin sister used.

Sammy867 · 24/11/2019 11:22

Our Tabitha is called tibs

EleanorShellstrop100 · 24/11/2019 12:07

Thank you for the replies! I can’t use Tabby as a nickname because a family member whose daughter was born a mere MONTH after mine has decided to name her daughter Tabitha too. Her justification for this was that she wouldn’t use the full version so it wasn’t really the same name - she only chose Tabitha after we announced our name, because she fell in love with nickname Tabby, and she couldn’t think of any other full names to use to get that nickname. In the spirit of pretending to be reasonable I just congratulated her and said it was fine, although I’m secretly less than pleased but in the words of Mumsnet - nobody owns a name! So we thought we would just choose one of the many other cute nicknames for her! (Your replies haven’t helped my pretending-not-to-be-pissed-off though, I must say! Grin Although I do LOVE the other options so it’s softening the blow a little! )

@Winterdaysarehere what a bizarre comment! Lots of people use nicknames - are you anti all nicknames? Also if you read my OP you’ll see I very clearly stated that she just seems too small for her name at the moment! I adore the name Tabitha - I think it’s strong and dignified as well as beautiful. However she’s currently a tiny baby so we are wanting to use one of the cute nicknames for her which we think will suit her better while she’s so tiny!

Kitty

DramaAlpaca · 24/11/2019 12:10

As I will forever associate Tabitha with cats (not being bitchy, my favourite ever cat was called Tabitha) it would have to be Kitty. It's sweet.

userabcname · 24/11/2019 12:10

I love kitty and beth! Tabitha is a lovely name. Congrats on your baby girl.

EleanorShellstrop100 · 24/11/2019 12:10

@Astronica you’re right - it is a really lovely dilemma Grin your favorites are my favorites rol, so hard to choose! We are leaning towards Kitty because she is like a little kitten, tiny and cuddly and cute! Haha!

@KatnissK @DramaAlpaca @Soubriquet I wrote the message to a PP that I was leaning towards Kitty before I read your comments - as soon as I pressed ‘send’ I read your messages saying you’d go with it too! I think this is a sign that kitty might be the one! Grin 🐱

I absolutely love the name Tabitha but don't understand why you would call her Kitty, there is no connection. Call her Katherine if that is the nickname you want but why not just use her beautiful proper name?

baffledbeyondbelief · 24/11/2019 12:23

I like Bibi or Kit
