Tabitha’s nickname

EleanorShellstrop100 · 24/11/2019 10:13

Baby Tabitha seems too small for her name at the moment, but there are just so many nicknames for Tabitha and we can’t choose one! We made the mistake of looking online for ‘possible nicknames for Tabitha’ and had no idea it would come up with so many that we liked... we’ve seen Abby, Bea, Beth, Betsy, and Kitty! And she’s so small and cute that she suits them all. I know it’s not a big deal but please help me to make up my mind!

The Tabithas I know are Tabi and Bitha.

PsychosonicCindy · 24/11/2019 19:33

I would just use Tabby. Realistically how often are you with the relative with the daughter called Tabby? Would they be at the same school? Same surname?
Just on a random note is this why the girl is called Biff in the Biff Chip & Kipper books? Short for Tabitha? ?

yellowallpaper · 24/11/2019 19:55

We called Alexander lexyboo because you can call babies just about any cute name you like. He's now just called Al.

TheHobbitMum · 24/11/2019 19:59

I have a Tabitha and her nickname is Tabby (used to be Tibby-Tabby-Too Grin)

midsomermurderess · 24/11/2019 20:02

Who knows what her friends will come up with. You can't control that.

Hersetta427 · 24/11/2019 20:02

I can't see how anything other than Tabby remotely works and doesn't sound forced and made up to lever a nickname to like into a longer name that you also like. One of my son's best friends is a Tabby.

Beeziekn33ze · 24/11/2019 20:06

Biff is Barbara but Kipper (Christopher) couldn’t pronounce it as far I Can remember.

CalleighDoodle · 24/11/2019 20:12

I call a Tabitha tabby cat.

Bibi is nice. Or just tabby. If the family member chose tabitha after you im sure she wouldnt mind you using tabby. But im mean.

Bellatrix14 · 24/11/2019 20:20

We called my sister (who is called Tabatha, obviously) Twitchit a lot when she was little, it was even part of her email address. Have you thought about Cat/Kat (as in Tabby Cat) instead of Kitty? I‘d try not to overthink it though, if a nickname isn’t coming to you naturally then don’t try and force one just yet!

HeavyMetalHoneyMonster · 24/11/2019 20:32

Tabby is lovely!

Or Catkin or Gatita (Spanish pussycat).

BarbaraManatee · 24/11/2019 20:48

My Tabitha is mostly Tabitha to other people but she's Tibby-Tabs. We tried out Tibby for a while when she was little but it didn't really stick.

BarbaraManatee · 24/11/2019 20:48

Tibby-Tabs to me, that should say!

PsychosonicCindy · 24/11/2019 20:53

Thanks @Beeziekn33ze!
I didn't know that about Kipper either I've often wondered!

WoWsers16 · 24/11/2019 20:57

I have a Tabitha in my class and we call her Twiggy :) love it xx

ElphiasDoge · 24/11/2019 21:05

Tibby was going to be my first response but love PPs suggestion of TibTab!

doodlyfiddly · 24/11/2019 21:12

The Tabitha I know is called Tiggy/Tigs.

Untamedtoad · 24/11/2019 21:37

We have a just turned 2 Tabitha, who most commonly gets called Tabby, Tabs, or "T" (tee), but also gets called Tab, Tibs, Tibble, Twitch, Twitchet, Tamagotchi, Tamatoa, Taz (she's like a Tasmanian devil sometimes!) and has a few other nicknames relating to her middle name. Poor kid has to respond to so many different names, but she doesn't seem to mind 🤣 and if she sees anything with a "T" on it, she says "look 'T' for Tabitha!" And if anyone asks her what her name is she'll say "Tabitha" or "Tabby" so she obviously knows what her actual name is.

Heh1991 · 24/11/2019 22:58

I really like Bea best of the names you listed.

I know a Tabitha who is nicknamed Tilly- in case you want further inspiration!

Crunchymum · 24/11/2019 23:42

Nicknames evolve.

Agree with the PP who said just use her name.

Not directed at you OP, but I can't abide all this given name / nickname bullshit.

Yesyesitsme · 24/11/2019 23:54

I love doodlyfiddly's suggestion of Tiggy or Tigs but honestly Tabby is the most natural nickname so if you like it, use it despite the clash!

EleanorShellstrop100 · 25/11/2019 04:50

Wow! If anything I have MORE options now not less so haven’t narrowed it down much but to be honest as she’s so teeny and doesn’t have a clue what I’m calling her at this stage anyway, I might just rotate them all for my own amusement for a couple of months, until she stops being too small for her name! Grin Or I could just keep calling her ‘baby’ (like a PP said - I’ve been just calling her this so far because she’s too small for anything else, it just seem silly! Like naming a little mouse Maximus or something 😂 )

My Tabby is now a bit older, but I tried calling her Tig and Tiggy to start with as a nn but it never really stuck, it's evolved a lot along the years and she has a my cute names but normally just Tabby

NoSauce · 25/11/2019 06:37

Nn evolve, they aren’t decided as that seems forced/contrived.

Tabitha is a gorgeous name. I wouldn’t be choosing random words that have nothing to do with it. Kitty??

Just call her Tabitha or Tabby.

diddlediddle · 25/11/2019 06:43

Just try different ones out each day and see what sticks?

diddlediddle · 25/11/2019 06:46

I like the name Kitty but it does seem a bit contrived as a nn for a baby Tabitha.

We call our child the full name even though they're little - in many ways it might be the only time you get to use it regularly because when they're older that's when nns start to become more usual. So I would just call her Tabitha to be honest! It's a lovely name and I don't think it's too long for a baby.

Otherwise apart from Tabby, Bea or Bibi seem to be the only natural shortenings of Tabitha. Both are very cute. Bibi is pretty similar to baby which you say you've been using anyway.
