Hello,

We have narrowed boys names down to Rowan and Nathan now. I like both but have slight preference for Rowan.
(We have a Luke and Isaac already )

DH prefers Nathan.

I do like shortening of 'nate'
Not as keen on the shortening of 'row' but I don't mind others calling him this, I just would not call him this personally.

I'm not really concerned with popularity
(I know Rowan is more popular but as long as not in top 20 i don't mind too much)

Just interested to see which name people like best? This may help me to decide
I won't be offended at all, if not your cup of tea!

Many thanks for your help x

He is gorgeous and both names are lovely, think about the name that you may regret not using rather than other people's views.

underthebridgedowntown · 21/11/2019 00:27

I prefer Rowan as a name, but I think he looks like a Nathan!

diddlediddle · 21/11/2019 01:35

Gorgeous baby. I think he looks like a Rowan and your description of why you like the name suggests to me you really love it and so should choose that.

Rowan is a little popular at the minute but even so there won't be a million babies called it. Give him Nathan as a middle name and if he prefers it when older he can choose.

Otherwise I prefer Nathaniel nn Nate - I find Nathan quite harsh (especially for such a cute boy).

dontlickthelamp · 21/11/2019 01:39

Rowan

SilverBangle · 21/11/2019 01:39

I have a Nathan and a Luke 😊

littleorangecat22 · 21/11/2019 01:42

Nathan. And I love Nate.

Astronica · 21/11/2019 03:41

I prefer Rowan. However I do really like Nate and Nathaniel, just not Nathan.

Winterdaysarehere · 21/11/2019 08:01

I always think Rowan spelling looks feminine. Depends if you like nn. Nathan is lovely and so is Nate. Personally my dc have none shortening names - expect 1 and nobody shortens it as she likes it long!!
He is beautiful though op!!
Congratulations!

Thinkingsticks · 21/11/2019 08:26

@Chocmallows thank you, thats good advice x

@Leopardprintboots nooooo definetly no more! 😂 x

Thank you everyone. It is good to know how a name comes across to others. I don't want to ask family as some pulled a face about Isaac, but we still went with it. Strangely I'm not keen on Nathaniel, just a bit too long for me. I like two syllabul names max.

Thanks @Winterdaysarehere if we do choose Rowan maybe will consider a different spelling of roan.

Thank you to everyone for your help, I will be sure to update the post when we have decided, which should be over the weekend x

I had a girl but if we had a boy I desperately wanted Nathan or Nate for short but my OH was against as he knew a Nathan he didn't like! Such a minefield! I like both but love Nathan. Rowan I prefer for a girl but it's also lovely xx

Whattodoabout · 21/11/2019 10:02

Rowan. I don’t like Nathan one bit.

Thinkingsticks · 21/11/2019 13:21

@Lolacat1234
Thanks, yes it is difficult to agree and to compromise! X

@Thinkingsticks perhaps if you’re finding it really difficult to agree between two names (as one of you likes one and one of you the other) - perhaps you could go back to the drawing board? Sorry I know that’s probably not what you want to hear 🤣

I honestly think you’ll struggle to find a name as classic yet underused as Nathan/Nate (which sounds so good with siblings btw) .....but then there’s hundreds of names, maybe you’ll find a name that’s perfect for both of you (...or not! 🤣)

I thought of some other nature names you could consider using as a middle name. Feel free to ignore:

‘Heath’
‘Slyvan’- Forrest
‘Aster’ - a star
‘Perry’ -pear tree
‘Radley’ - red forest
‘Aspen’ - tree
‘Clyde’ - river
‘Ashby/Asher’

Yes please come and update us when you have named him xx

Leopardprintboots · 21/11/2019 13:50

Also ‘Oakley’

Leopardprintboots · 21/11/2019 14:03

I’ve just seen the names Patrick and Cole on another thread, thought I’d suggest them.

Those aren’t really nature names but have you thought of:

“Fraser” - that’s a strawberry flower so is actually a flower name- perhaps the only flower name for boys!

A strong name with good nickname potential

Good luck choosing

Thinkingsticks · 21/11/2019 16:19

@Leopardprintboots

Thank you for the suggestions I do like heath, but we have a h surname so doesn't really go.
Won't be going back to drawing board as i have been through literally hundreds already I think! And Husband said hard no to everyone.
Then we had Rowan, coner and Nathan. He said Rowan is Ok, doesn't like coner so that was dropped and only one he really likes now is Nathan.

Yes I will definitely update this post when he is named ☺

Thanks xx

Nathan

Leopardprintboots · 21/11/2019 16:34

Yes completely understand @Thinkingsticks

Best of luck. ❤️ Boys’ names are HARD!

FizzyGreenWater · 21/11/2019 18:53

Sounds like he's simply bullying to get the name he wants.

Thinkingsticks · 21/11/2019 22:41

Well he said I could have final say but he much prefers Nathan.
But i would like us to be unison about his name. But it doesn't look like that is going to happen. I do like Nathan, Nate more so it's just a name that had never really occured to me before or id really had any thoughts about until he suggested it. X

I have a 22 year old Rowan! Adore the name( and him!)
I think it goes with your other names too, if that matters to you

uncomfortablydumb53 · 23/11/2019 14:58

I've just seen his Pic... He's absolutely gorgeous Congratulations!
I also have 3DS's Boys are Fab

Leopardprintboots · 23/11/2019 15:11

@uncomfortablydumb53 ah interesting - 22 years ago the name must have been pretty rare (and RoMan even rarer!)
It’s very ‘on trend’ now (one of fastest rising top 100 names although not rising as dramatically as Roman), so you were massively ahead of the curve ❤️ Well done!! 😃

Leopardprintboots · 23/11/2019 15:12

What are your other two boys called out of interest (although appreciate you might not want to say) @uncomfortablydumb53

KSxx · 23/11/2019 19:39

Definitely prefer rowan!! not a fan of Nathan x
