Confused with best spelling for Adalynne

Hi, I love the name Adalynne - would you pronounce that Add-a-lin?
But now the more I've looked into that name the more I'm confused about the possible spellings:

Adalynne
Adalynn
Adalyn

But there's also Adeline which I would pronounce differently as add-eh-line but I'm starting to like that too.

What's the most common/well known spelling and how would you pronounce them?
Thanks

I've never heard the name addalynne
I've heard Adalind, which is nice, though Germanic so a bit odd if you aren't. There's also Adeline which is pronounced with the eye sound at the end.
All the spellings that you have suggested look pretty made up and odd to be honest

Hundredacrewoods · 26/10/2019 08:15

I’ve only ever come across the spelling Adeline so I would go with that. Adalynne in particular looks made up to me. Beautiful name though.

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 26/10/2019 08:15

Adaline, as in the movie The Age of Adaline?

Short A- dah- line

Ohyesiam · 26/10/2019 08:18

Only ever heard of Adeline, which is lovely.

VodkaRevelation · 26/10/2019 08:29

Your first three suggestions I would pronounce as adder-lin. And then Adeline as adder-line. Both with an emphasis on the first syllable.

I prefer Adalyn as a spelling choice for the first name.

lovelyjubilly · 26/10/2019 08:30

Like Madeline but without the M? I like it!
I'd spell it Adeline.

Fairybobbin · 26/10/2019 09:26

Thanks everyone, that's really interesting. Looks like on the whole we would pronounce them the same and the spelling Adalyn is winning so far from the top 3 choices 🤔

I think Adalyn/Adalynn etc are alternative spellings of the name Adeline/Adaline, rather than it being its own name? I LOVE Adeline/Adaline but with the line pronounciation, I don’t like Lynn.

TheFatberg · 26/10/2019 09:30

Everyone is telling you it's spelled Adeline - don't be quirky and give your kid a name that will always be spelled incorrectly.

GummyGoddess · 26/10/2019 09:33

Adaline, Adalyne reminds me of addled.

I have a normal name with an unusual spelling. It's shit, don't do that to your child, it irritates me on a daily basis that people spell it wrong even in an email that has the correct spelling in my address.

MonaChopsis · 26/10/2019 09:34

If I saw Adalynne, Adalyn or any variation, I would pronounce it Ada-Lyn, as it looks like two seperate names mushed together.

I much prefer Adeline.

Atalune · 26/10/2019 09:38

Of the way you want it to be said then the Adalyn spelling is the best.

Adaline I think is a nicer name. But sounds different as people have mentioned.

CodenameVillanelle · 26/10/2019 09:51

Adeline isn't the same as the name the OP wants as it's pronounced Adel 'eye' ne. The name the OP wants is Adalind which I'm guessing she's heard as Adalynn. If you want the 'inn' sound at the end you can't put an e on it. However I really don't like any of the spellings you are using.

MikeUniformMike · 26/10/2019 09:54

I'd avoid it OP. It will be a lifetime of misspellings.
I'd go with Adalind which is pronounced Adda-lind.

MarigoldGlove · 26/10/2019 10:01

I think if you want people to say Lyn at the end rather than line you should spell it Adalyn. It’s the clearest.

I’m a supply teacher and this is the exact sort of name I’d trip over. It’s like a familiar name but it’s not it.

LucileDuplessis · 26/10/2019 10:04

Adeline is nicer IMO. Or just Ada.

Ohilovedinosaurs · 26/10/2019 10:19

Addalyn?

CodenameVillanelle · 26/10/2019 10:20

Addalyn is the clumsiest, most inelegant clodhopper of a name. Double D in a name should always be avoided.

HeronLanyon · 26/10/2019 10:23

I not Y.

honeybunlatte · 26/10/2019 14:38

Adeline is of French-Germanic origins so is correctly pronounced Ade-leen. Nicknames Ada, Della, Lina etc. It's only recently become pronounced Ada-line due to the film 'Age if Adaline'. Lots of people will pronounce it Adaleeen.

If it's the Lyn sound you want there's no harm in spelling jt Addalyn, Adalynn, Adalynne etc. It's very popular in America.

CodenameVillanelle · 26/10/2019 14:41

If they are in the UK people won't pronounce it adaleen because the 'line' spelling is not pronounced 'leen'.

honeybunlatte · 26/10/2019 14:49

Well I'm in the UK and I pronounce it as leen. Because that is the correct pronunciation.
There are plenty of names with ine in that are pronounced correctly as een in the uk.
Jaqueline isn't pronounced Jacque-line.

Angeline, Christine, Delphine, Emmaline, Josephine, Nadine, Pauline, Yasmine.
I won't go into the bastardisation if Madeline though.

FizzyGreenWater · 26/10/2019 14:53

Well there's no real spelling of it, as it's a made-up mash up of other names.

Just choose what you like best, or preferably go for Adeline which is an actual name.

Incidentally I really dislike the 'lynne' ending on any name, it's really old fashioned and naff!

CodenameVillanelle · 26/10/2019 14:54

Ok, actually you are completely right there! I retract my statement.
Although it still won't be pronounced Adalynn

Sb20162019 · 26/10/2019 15:12

From your choice I think Adalynn based on Lynn but personally I'm not too keen on the spelling myself.

I really love Adeline or Adalind though these obviously arent the same name or pronunciation as your name choice
