Always my favourite baby name lists.

The names I love but are too out there (even for me who's child has an unranked name) to use:

Boys:
Nemo
Zeus
Rubeus
Sherlock
Tokyo
Woody

Girls:
Bambi
Dolly
Birdie
Baby
Queenie
Pepper

Major guilty pleasure names BlushBlush my DP barely let me finish the sentence when suggesting these ones although I wouldn't have been brave enough to use them anyway 😂

Oh and just remembered I was desperate for a while to call DD Drusilla (nan Dru) but DH was having none of it.

HalfBloodPrincess · 22/10/2019 21:45

My baby doll was called Persephine when I was a child - I feel very Hipser-ish and trendy all of a sudden.

My oldest 3 children all have classic names and I was quite tempted to choose something a bit 'out there' for my fourth (and last)
Names on my 'could we...?' List were

Clementine
Hecate
Lilith
Vada
Marceline

But we went with Elspeth instead.

Beatrix- wanted to call a daughter of mine that since I was a child, after Beatrix Potter. Never got to use it, ex husband wouldn't have it and I'll never have any more children. Really wish I'd put my foot down now!

Arietty, Demelza, Lemuel Roderick(Roddy)

OnTopOfTheWardrobe · 22/10/2019 22:41

Flavia for a girl and Sebastian for a boy. I don't have boys, but DP would have put the mockers on Sebastian (and I was worried about the crab association anyway).

OnTopOfTheWardrobe · 22/10/2019 22:41

(I'm keeping Flavia for a cat later on....)

ImportantWater · 22/10/2019 22:43

Psyche (sigh-key). Love the sound and the story but a/ can imagine the scope for midpronunciation and b/ the nicknames (psycho, psychic)

Queenest · 22/10/2019 22:43

daisydalrymple · 22/10/2019 22:47

Cleopatra and Delilah

For a boy I love Todd
It’s one of those extreme marmite names on here , that tends to have insulting responses. I tend to love boys names that are often described as American jock names / surnames Grin
My two boys have combinations of Matthew William Thomas Daniel as their 1st and MN.
Daughter has a traditional welsh name Grin

alwayscauseastir · 22/10/2019 22:48

Pixie and Romeo. I was dead-set on Pixie for my daughter but my dear old gran was having none of it and would regularly trash the name when I mentioned it. So I didn't use it. And just as well really as she is far too stocky and rough around the edges to be a pixie!!

KronksSpinachPuffs · 22/10/2019 22:51

Octavia
Aurelia
Penelope
Persephone
Anastasia

Basically anything posh or too long haha

FrownPrincess · 22/10/2019 22:55

What a good thing you weren’t brave enough to use Tristesse, KrissKross ! Would you call a child Sorrow/Sadness in English?

WhispersOfWickedness · 22/10/2019 23:03

Linus for a boy and Celeste or Evangeline for a girl Smile

Our robot hoover is called Hector Grin

CaptainTurdseye · 22/10/2019 23:07

Hephzibah
Lulu
Zillah

Jobi
Maximilian
Axel

Freyanna · 22/10/2019 23:10

Ptomely

Bearintheknow · 22/10/2019 23:13

Not me but OH loves ‘Wolf’ Hmm
I love Anastasia!

RickOShay · 22/10/2019 23:13

I also loved Ariel and really wish it wasn’t a washing powder Grin
Nike too.

VanyaHargreeves · 22/10/2019 23:18

Someone got absolutely roasted on here the other day for wanting to call her child Meadow, which I really like

I've liked the name Hayden since the 90s but it had a popular moment and is resolutely considered awful on here.

I probably wouldn't be brave enough to use Artemis, Athena or Allegra all of which I love

I also like Pelagia and Paloma and probably wouldn't use them

Titania is another and Regina, too many unfortunate nickname opportunities

But I remember when Noah was highly unusual and now its completely mainstream social consensus of what a nice name is does evolve for each generation

Olivia's and Bethany's have given way to Ava and Amelia were once it was Sarah and Emma, now baby Sarah's are unusual
