Short for theodora yes. As a stand alone name no.

Think of her putting Teddy on her Cv. Or becoming doctor Teddy. No. Just no.

Love it. But have to agree with previous posters and say that having Theodora on the birth certificate and then Teddy as a nickname keeps options open for the future incase your DD doesn’t want to be called Teddy as she grows up.

We actually really liked Teddy for a girl, we liked Theodora.

Give her a proper name eg theodora. You can't put teddy on a cv ... imagine they are lawyer, a police officer, a diplomat??? All kids should be given the option of a formal name

Funny on here that all children are going to be lawyers so must have a ‘proper’ name.
I’ve said it before, but we work in a multicultural country, we see names from all around the world. Companies have offices across the globe. If you think someone is going to be rejected for the name Teddy, you’re delusional. Especially in 20 years time.

Statistical studies have shown CVs with nicknames get worse response rates than CVs with real names. For example Vicky will get less offers than Victoria.

That's statistical fact not delusion.

But maybe in the future when we are all working for global firms no one will even need to know our names before they hire us?

Yes, it's true that Teddy isn't any different to Poppy or Ellie, but wouldn't you want a 'proper' more formal name?

Cute is only a good thing for a very short time, then it’s an increasingly bad thing. At least give her a full name too.

Regardless of the CV / professional debate (and women with cutesy names are successful against the odds despite not because of them) what of she just isn't a cutesy, fluffy, cuddly human being.

Unless it's a strong norm within your culture giving a child a name associated with an attribute invites the child to be the opposite of that attribute surely - the graceless Grace, the negative Hope, the wild and conflicted Serena, the 6 ft tall heavily built Wren or Arial, the unconventional looking slightly built Adonis or Hercules, the shy self conscious Augustus, the vegan Hunter and Teddy who hates being cuddled... Cue teasing and introducing herself as Olivia when she starts secondary school...

We’re talking about in 20 years time when this baby is looking for a job! Why reference recent stats? Scaring people into thinking their children won’t get jobs unless they have a top 10 name. Such drivel on here at times.

I have a 55 year old cousin Teddi. She continuously has to correct other people's spelling of it because they always write it as Teddy.
But I like it.

Oh, and hers isn't short for anything. She was named for her father Edward.

Yes I'm sure in 20 years time society as we know it will be so unrecognisable woke that people named after children's toys or Peter pan Indian princesses etc wont be judged. Judgement will have ceased to be a human trait

Theodora on bc then she has the choice of teddy or Thea which I personally love, unfortunately my husband didn't 😔

I'm not a massive fan, but putting it out there if you want an alternative to Theodora.

Please do give her a longer name. My name can't be shortened and I dislike not having options. It's not even a cutesy nickname to begin with, it's a proper name but only one syllable.

I'd hate to have a marmite name I couldn't vary.
