Thoughts on the name Indie

We’re expecting our second baby girl later this year and We’re a bit stuck for names.

We were so quick to pick our first daughters name and knew it was right straight away. But I’m really struggling this time!

What are people’s thoughts on Indie as a first name? I absolutely love it but not sure if it’s a name I’d regret in later years?

Thank you Smile

I completely associate it as a twee name for private schools on MN.

Leopardprintboots · 17/10/2019 15:51

What’s your first daughters name out of interest Op

TottieandMarchpane · 17/10/2019 15:51

Awful. What’s wrong with India, if that’s the kind of sound you’re going for?

notangelinajolie · 17/10/2019 15:55

I would say Indie is a type of school.

Perhaps India on the birth certificate, and then shorten to Indie or Dia?

FrownPrincess · 17/10/2019 15:55

Why not India, which you can then shorten? Or even Indiana?

Yorkshiredolls · 17/10/2019 15:57

I like it op, I don’t think it’s twee at all, I think its a little alternative. I’d use it myself if I was having a girl and husband would
let me

MrsEdSheeran · 17/10/2019 15:59

I like it

BendingSpoons · 17/10/2019 15:59

Another option you could consider is Indigo, nn Indie.

TottieandMarchpane · 17/10/2019 16:01

Indigo is a nice, bohemian kind of name.

ClaudiaWankleman · 17/10/2019 16:05

It’s not a name in its own right - needs to be a shortening of something like Indigo or India, in my opinion.

GoldPaperStars · 17/10/2019 16:06

I absolutely love it, although I might be tempted to go with India just so she has the choice of sounding a bit more “sensible” later in life. Then you can call her Indie as a nn.

albus55 · 17/10/2019 16:06

Love it, go for it x

NightLion · 17/10/2019 16:08

My daughter is 7. She has two lovely friends called Indie. The name suits both of them.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 17/10/2019 16:08

I know someone who has just had a baby and called her this. It must be gaining in popularity. (Something to consider if you want to avoid your child being one of 3 in her class) I’m not fussed on it personally. It seems like a nickname rather than a name in its own right.

puppyconfetti · 17/10/2019 16:09

It sounds incomplete.

Lisajg23 · 17/10/2019 16:09

I love indie! I would spell it Indy though don't like the word die in it x

stucknoue · 17/10/2019 16:11

India is name, indie for short

OceanPearl · 17/10/2019 16:13

I’m really not keen on giving children a nn. I myself have always been known by my nn and never by my ’real’ name. I hate the fact I have 3 or 4 different names people call me! For that reason we want to choose a name that can’t be shortened, which is exactly what we did for our first daughter.

I do like indigo but my DH is not keen - and if we’re going to call her indie from day one why not just go for that!

Thank you for all your opinions Smile I thought it would be a bit of a marmite name and I was right, not sure if that puts me off or not though..

I like indie, however i dont think it quite "goes" with Marnie (also a lovely name), can't put my finger on why though.

Mollpop · 17/10/2019 16:28

I'm not keen. It sounds made up and like you're trying too hard. Sorry. I love Marnie though
