Stuck on middle name

LauraHN95 · 17/10/2019 03:17

It's sort of a tradition in my family to use your Grandparents name as the middle name. I'm 100% set on the first name Rose but I'm really struggling with the middle as I don't like either of mine or my DH grandma's name. Which do you think sounds best??

Rose Ivy
Rose Doreen
Rose Joyce

Thanks for any input! Smile

None of them work at all! Rose Joyce does sound like Rolls Royce 😂 Rose Ivy is way too floral and not in a good way, and Doreen is so ugly it just totally ruins the prettiness of Rose. Can’t you break tradition? It seems silly to spoil the name.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 17/10/2019 14:40

Rose ivy is the best.
I know you said its your family's tradition but could you maybe use the name of one if your partners grandmothers so still continuing the tradition but opening up to more possibilities?

LauraHN95 · 17/10/2019 14:42

@Awwlookatmybabyspider i like some of those suggestions but they’re not my grandmas name so unfortunately not an option for me as I’m pretty certain I would like to name her after one of our grans.

Two middle names is definitely the way forward in this situation.

LauraHN95 · 17/10/2019 14:45

@Ihateedmundelephant I can break tradition if I wanted to but I don’t. I’d rather change the first name than the middle names. I don’t appreciate you saying my gran has an ugly name though haha

@Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav
Doreen and Joyce are my DH grans. Ivy is my gran, my sister has already used my other grans name.

The only other option I have is my late auntie but she is Karen which also isn’t the best name. I like Karen rose but not Rose Karen

Ivy is lovely! How do you not like Ivy?!

CornishCreation · 17/10/2019 17:06

How about Rose Joy instead of Joyce.
I would go for Joyce though, I have an old fashioned middle name sentimental also but I don't mind and I've used it anyway.

Benjispruce · 17/10/2019 17:08

Well you can’t change your DGM’s names. Out of the 3 I’d say Rose Ivy. Do/did they have any middle names your prefer?

CornishCreation · 17/10/2019 17:08

*never used it

Benjispruce · 17/10/2019 17:11

Or could you use a feminised version of the grandfathers’ names? So grandad Nigel for Rose Nigella for example?

Grasspigeons · 17/10/2019 17:12

I like Joyce but not with Rose.

I think Doreen pribably wins for me but would think 2 middle names would work. My son has two for the same reason.

Benjispruce · 17/10/2019 17:13

Shorten Doreen to Dora?

user1493494961 · 17/10/2019 17:14

Ivy.

Benjispruce · 17/10/2019 17:20

I think 2 middle names as a pp suggested, softens the old fashioned sounding DGM’s names. Rose Clara Ivy
Rose Charlotte Joyce

ThisLittlePiggyWentTo · 17/10/2019 17:21

I like Rose Joyce and think that sounds lovely. Joyce is in the moment too - stranger things!

NoSauce · 17/10/2019 17:32

Rose is beautiful as a first name.

I would have Rose Elizabeth Ivy.

Lowlandlucky · 17/10/2019 17:58

Rose Joyce sounds too much a 70s band called Rose Royce or the car maker Rolls Royce.

Velveteenfruitbowl · 17/10/2019 18:04

Could use use your grandfathers names instead? Maybe one of then was an Evelyn or a Hillary? Even something like Elliot is quite feminine. Otherwise I’d opt for Ivy.

LauraHN95 · 17/10/2019 18:41

@velveteenfruitbowl Unfortunately the grandads aren’t any better. We’d only have the choice between Christopher and Richard.

Ah, yes, that’s even worse. In that case I would say Ivy. I actually quite like the double flora theme. And it makes me think of climbing roses which I have an adoration for.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 17/10/2019 20:09

Could be christine/a
Rose christina sounds lovely

funkt · 17/10/2019 20:10

Rose Joyce but as pp earlier said, it does sound like Rolls Royce 😬😬

LauraHN95 · 17/10/2019 20:22

I think I’ve come to my decision. Thank you everyone!
