Ariadne or Hestia?

A Greek Mythology crazed pal of mine is stuck between the two. I'd love to see which one you prefer, because I adore both.

I adore hestia I know one she is portugese and one of the loveliest people I know

RyanReynoldsArmpit · 15/10/2019 19:21

Ariadne makes me think of a children's character, although I can't think what program.

HappyDinosaur · 15/10/2019 19:23

I love Ariadne, it was in my top 3 when I had my daughter.

funkt · 15/10/2019 19:24

@RyanReynoldsArmpit hmm, haven't heard of that. Was only speaking of the greek mythology person. I'll rack my brain for the name though Grin

I am not a fan of either. Arrietty?

Ellmau · 15/10/2019 19:25

Both are good. I prefer Ariadne.

user1493494961 · 15/10/2019 19:25

Has she got a third choice?

Alarae · 15/10/2019 19:27

I know a little Ariadne, she goes by Aria. Out of the two, that's my preference but Ariadne makes me think of spiders for some reason.

funkt · 15/10/2019 19:28

She DOES have a third and forth option, though not as popular with her or her DP. It's Josephine or Calypso. The chosen middle name is Elisabeth after her late mother.

funkt · 15/10/2019 19:29

@Alarae that may be because Ariadne was the girl who was transformed into a spider after winning a competition against Athena 😅

Hestia. Goddess of the hearth and home. Also Hester is one of my favourite names.

Ariadne just reminds me of Arachne and although I know it’s NOT correct then I’m thinking of spiders.

Love Josephine too, although I’m not usually a fan of female diminutive names.

NoSquirrels · 15/10/2019 19:35

Ariadne was a goddess who assisted Theseus in the labyrinth. Arachne was the girl turned into a spider...

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/10/2019 19:36

Out of the two Ariadne, but I don’t get where this sudden hype has come fromConfused

OverthinkingThis · 15/10/2019 19:38

I know an Ariadne, I think it's a nice name

Cocoaandbedsocks · 15/10/2019 19:39

I love Ariadne (with Ari as a nickname)

june2007 · 15/10/2019 19:42

Hestia was my sisters Hamster.

RyanReynoldsArmpit · 15/10/2019 20:57

Sorry I totally had a brain fart and forgot to add to my original comment, that I like Ariadne and as a fan of shortening names I like Ari as well. You may be mistaken for naming her after Ariana Grande however if you chose that route.

sunshineskys · 15/10/2019 21:01

I don't like either sorry!

Ohyesiam · 15/10/2019 21:01

For some reason Hestia sounds like the name of an owl to me. No idea why.

CravingCheese · 15/10/2019 21:03

Hestia is lovely.
Ariadne is nice. I prefer Ariana but it's till nice.

Calypso is a bit more of a character name. And sounds somehow sinister for some reason. (is there an infamous - whether fictional or real - Calypso?)

She might also like Clio or Juno (which is admittedly Roman...).

Ontheblackhill · 15/10/2019 21:05

Hestia is a London housing association. Dont do that!

CravingCheese · 15/10/2019 21:07

Josephine Elizabeth would be classic and pretty. But a bit boring and... Idk, soft?

Morado · 15/10/2019 21:49

Oooh definitely Calypso!

Frith2013 · 15/10/2019 22:00

Hestia because goddess of home and hearth is better than a spider connection.

123Dancewithme · 15/10/2019 22:05

Ariadne is lovely.
