Freya or felicity are lovely

StroppyWoman · 14/10/2019 17:38

Lots of lovely names on that list. I like Tamsin, Emmeline, Freya and Francesca best. Felicity is also nice.
Sorry, OP, Azalea and Tegan are awful.

Inlovewitharagorn · 14/10/2019 17:46

Tamsyn - Tamsin is lovely. Most names look worse with a y than an i in my opinion (where there's a choice. I don't mean Ivy and Ivi!!)
Savannah - don't like at all. Susannah is lovely. Savannah feels a bit tacky (and I know the Queen has a great granddaughter called this but it still feels like that to me).
Ember - I have a soft spot for this because I knew a nice one. But I don't really like it as a name.
Freya - lovely. Very popular but very nice.
Emmeline - gorgeous.
Elodie - lovely
Francesca - feels very 70s/80s to me. Also the nn's are not pretty
Talitha - nice but I prefer Tabitha. Sweet though.
Azalea - don't like at all. Sounds like a road name (Azalea Drive?)
Tegan - really don't like at all
Felicity - lovely

Emmeline, Felicity, Elodie or Freya for me

Charlesandfred · 14/10/2019 17:49

My niece is Francesca. Lovely name x

tried20names · 14/10/2019 17:51

My favourite is Felicity followed by Emmeline

FizzyGreenWater · 14/10/2019 17:59

Well Emmeline will end up as Emmy with most people assuming she's Emily, and mishearing it.

It's ok, but Francesca and Tamsin are far better.

None of the others appeal at all.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 14/10/2019 18:05

Love love love felicity
Really like Freya, unfortunately my husband didn't 😔
Like elodie, Emmeline and francesca.
Don't really like the others I'm afraid.
The only elodie I have met is the paramedic who delivered my youngest daughter, never met a child with the name!!!

Taylen69 · 14/10/2019 19:00

Only like azalea, and Savannah, rest are a no frim me

VenusClapTrap · 14/10/2019 19:03

I love Talitha and Azalea. These stand out for me.

goldandpink · 14/10/2019 19:11

This is so lovely of you all to take the time to review our list!! I'm still adding every new comment to our tally chart. We're now split on Felicity, I love it but DP less keen. Emmeline still a winner but I agree with those saying it might get mistaken for Emily a lot. Definitely taken peoples advice on Tegan which is off the list and if we do go for Tamsin (unlikely) then we will spell it right!

Tamsyn: Not as pretty as others on your list and not sure if her friends would call her Tammy which I don't like.
Savannah: pretty but not as strong as others on your list.
Ember: unusual but lovely. Great imagery with this name.
Freya: pretty but still strong. Like it.
Emmeline: my winner by a mile on this list, absolutely love it and the connotations of Emmeline Pankhurst lend it to a strong little girl, with cute nickname potential. Traditional, but not very common. LOVE IT.
Elodie: musical but as pp have said, quite popular atm.
Francesca: I like this a lot too, more great nickname potential as well!
Talitha: not sure for some reason but I do really like tabitha?
Azalea: all I can think about is Iggy Azalea so on that basis I don't like it sorry!
Tegan: sounds weird and modern compared to your other options, not bad but not my favourite.
Felicity: another pretty one, similar feel to francesca.

Pumpkincandle · 14/10/2019 19:34

Tamsyn.... Sorry but really ugly sounding name.
Savannah.... Love it (MN won't like it)
Ember... No, think it's terrible
Freya... Lovely
Emmeline... No, just no
Elodie.... Good strong name, like it
Francesca... I really don't like it. Its a fussy name and not nice sounding
Talitha... No and even worse is tabitha
Azalea.... No
Tegan... No
Felicity.... Very ugly name sorry!

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 14/10/2019 20:14

Felicity Emmeline surname
Emmeline felicity surname
Best of both worlds!!! 😂 😂

Oneforposy7 · 14/10/2019 20:22

Emmeline
Elodie
Freya
Francesca

Would be my votes. Sorry but I think Ember Talitha and Azalea are awful.

JI32019 · 14/10/2019 23:18

I'm saddened to see my name be described as "awful" and "dreadful".

If you like a name, OP - don't let others opinions put you off!

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 14/10/2019 23:36

I'm saddened to see my name be described as "awful" and "dreadful".

This is the problem with name boards isn't it.

There will always be people who like and dislike certain names. Its partly the reason why some names are solidly in the top ten every year - its the fear of not getting it right. Of course this results in there being three kids with the same name in the classroom.

When I was searching for names for my own child, I came to the realisation that it didn't matter whether some posters liked or disliked the names I had chosen as I didn't like the names they liked. Does that make sense? E.g I don't expect someone who likes the names Holly/Poppy/Lilly Mae etc to particularly like the full names Elizabeth/Margot/Rosanna. People have their own styles which are influenced by where they are from, their friends and very often their aspirations. Others are influenced by characters in tv programmes. Neither is 'wrong', they are just different.

goldandpink · 15/10/2019 08:52

@JI32019

It's a very detached process- judging names just by the sound or look on paper... in reality names are tied to a person and that also has a huge influence on whether people like a name and I doubt anyone ever really thinks so objectively about your name in this way IRL. If I met a Josephine (one of my less fave names) I wouldn't pay much attention to their name, just them as a person, but if you asked me to analyse the name in isolation of the person I'd say I didn't like it.

I love all the names I put forward and wanted help to pick but would ultimately use any of them. Yes it's a bit galling when people question my taste but I'm genuinely interested in the views and even more helpful where there's a rationale as some connotations I've never thought of.

So to any Savannahs, TamsYns, Embers, Azaleas or Tegans out there- I love your name :-) just because there's not unanimous love for it on this post it doesn't mean that people don't love it on you!

I know a Tamsin and she is always called Tasmin or Yasmin or Jasmine. Hates it. Emmeline is gorgeous. DD would have been Adeline if I got my way!

Bear2014 · 15/10/2019 09:21

Love Francesca and Emmeline.

Don't like the rest, and always really surprised by the love for Felicity on here. Can't stand it personally, but possibly because the only two I have ever met have not been nice people...

goldandpink · 15/10/2019 09:40

@Pinacola Adeline is lovely but would not go well with our surname. I very much like it though!

OP posts:
Anyat212 · 15/10/2019 09:48

I actually like the spelling of Tamsyn as opposed to Tasmin. That's my favourite on your list.

I like Freya too although it's becoming very popular at the moment. Pretty name though.

Good luck OP Smile

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 15/10/2019 09:55

I think OP if you had used the traditional spellings of names in your original post, the answers might have been different e.g Tamsin instead of Tamsyn. I think that is quite a lovely and quite ‘posh’name but seeing it mangled with a ‘y’ in the middle of it makes it less likeable.

I’ve never heard of the names Ember or Azalea.

I’d group your names as follows

Elodie
Tamsin (spelled like this)
Emmeline
Felicity
Francesca

Freya
Azalea
Talitha
Savannah
Ember
Tegan

That is obviously only my opinion. However I think it is likely that those who like names in the first group (all ‘pony club’ type names) are less likely to like the names in the second group (current and fiesty) and vice versa.

goldandpink · 15/10/2019 10:41

@Doyoureallyneedtoask agree there are two categories here- I think that's where I've mashed together my faves with DPs faves and so it is essentially 2 different people putting together one list. I'm responsible for the 'pony club' suggestions 😂

I'm genuinely surprised by the number of comments on Tamsyn, I really did think it was spelt with a Y... I actually only like it with a Y so it's gone off the list as I don't think I like it with the I spelling as much and advice here is to use I if using at all!

TomorrowsPrincess · 15/10/2019 12:40

I have a Francesca..... we call her Frankie. Absolutely love the name and am not biased at all 😂
