Robin for a boy

Is that a bit wet sounding? DH seems to think so but I really like it. Looking for bird/animal/nature inspired names, without damning my son to a lifetime of ridicule... Feeling a bit overwhelmed! DH has vetoed all my previous suggestions (Kit, Brock, Finn) without actually volunteering any himself Hmm

I’m not keen, despite Robin Hood and Batman and Robin. It’s not a nature name, though, and has nothing to do with birds. It’s a diminutive of Robert.

Teddybear45 · 29/09/2019 10:51

I don’t like Robin but I do like the following nature names:

Ash
Dean
Glenn
Leif
Flint
Rowan

MrsBertBibby · 29/09/2019 10:56

I'm not keen. Finn is nicer.

Don't give your husband any more names to veto until he ventures some himself.

MoobaaMoobaa · 29/09/2019 11:00

I like it

wtftodo · 29/09/2019 11:03

I like it. And know a 6yr old Robin who is lovely.

PurBal · 29/09/2019 12:18

DH has a very good friend called Robin. He is called Rob for short (obvs) but I think it is a very classic name and not wet at all.

Howyoualldoworkme · 29/09/2019 12:21

I have a 27 year old son Robin. Named after an uncle who is now 82
Neither have them have been ridiculed Hmm

MissHenty · 29/09/2019 12:33

I love the name Robin so much for a little boy. I think it’s a perfect name

Nature names for boys are very tricky.

How about Ash or Radley? Neither are as classic as Robin though.

Re:Rowan - it’s too similar to Roman I think. Both are really popular now, especially RoMan. On current trajectory it’ll be top 10 soon. I wouldn’t like the questions “is your son Roman with an M or a W”. A couple of years ago wouldn’t have been a problem but it is now both are becoming so popular.

Kit and Finn are really nice. Could you try suggesting them to DH again? I found the more my DH heard a name the more used to it he got

rslsys · 29/09/2019 12:40

I know a Robin and a very nice guy he is too!
He was actually christened Christopher Robin - but chose not to use his first name.

daisypond · 29/09/2019 12:47

Lots of male names are actually nature or animal names, they’re just not obvious - Bryn, Craig, Peter, Arthur, Bruno, etc. Could you have Kes? (Maybe short for kestrel).

MrsBertBibby · 29/09/2019 13:27

Or Kester.

MissHenty · 29/09/2019 13:40

@daisypond peter is lovely

Branleuse · 29/09/2019 13:41

I love it. My first boyfriend was called Robin.

MissHenty · 29/09/2019 13:49

Yes Robin isn’t wet sounding at all to me. I guess your DH must have known someone wet with that name. It’ll loose those connotations once his son has the name

partofyoupoursoutofme · 29/09/2019 15:08

I've known several men called Robin, none of them showed any signs of toxic masculinity, if that's what people think is 'wet'? Just very interesting intelligent people, two of whom are really successful. One is a professor and another owns a chain of posh hotels. Both charming and handsome, if that makes a difference!

nopenotplaying · 29/09/2019 15:13

It's ok, I prefer Falcon though x

Maseandmum · 29/09/2019 15:16

I really like it

Orangecake123 · 29/09/2019 17:46

It's a name i've always loved.

And I also know a new baby Robin.

AverageMummy · 29/09/2019 18:06

I love this name - one of the best

I also detest the trend of giving girls boy names and then that suddenly making the name unusable for a boy....

MissHenty · 29/09/2019 18:23

Nah Robin is still very usable for boys.

Robyn for a girl is spelt differently and is still pretty rare. I’ve never met any in 3 years of toddler groups.

FishCanFly · 30/09/2019 15:29

Yes!

I have a Robin and I love it. Not encouraging you to use it though as I don't want it to get popular 😉

MikeUniformMike · 30/09/2019 20:38

I like it.

ForestDweller27 · 01/10/2019 20:57

I go back and forth with Robin! I love it but don’t like Rob Blush
