I’m still totally and utterly struggling to choose a name for our little girl. My partner and I had a list of about 30 that were ones we liked individually or together .. we have managed to whittle it down bit by bit but I’m still not sure I’ve found the one. So for a bit of fun what would you choose from the following or do you have any suggestions...

  • Alice Lynne Murphy
  • Abigail Lynne Murphy
  • Imogen Lynne Murphy
  • Maggie Lynne Murphy
  • Rosie Lynne Murphy

Maggie Murphy sounds great! Alice is lovely too - as is Rose (but prefer Rosie as a nickname for Rose). I am not crazy over Lynne as a middle name though

Not Maggie! I think it’s an awful name for a child.

Alice is my favourite! Also really like Imogen and Abigail, Rosie is really nice but wouldn't personally choose it and km not keen on Maggie but theres nothing wrong with it just not to my taste :)

Love Imogen and Rosie. Not keen on Maggie - I think it sounds a bit harsh. Plus somebody I despise has a dog called Maggie so that makes me biased Grin

I know someone in her 50's who has always been Maggie, I think it works well as an adult. (You can always go full name and do Margaret although I hate Margaret 😬)

I like Maggie with the surname it does sound quite cool. I also like Imogen, and I love Rosie.

It’s really, really hard to prevent a nickname.

My children have nicknames (that we use) that I didn’t expect them to have. But you can’t say a name 100 times a day without it morphing into something else. Also the names they have have felt a little ridiculous on a baby so without really thinking about it I used baby-ish versions of their names that stuck or morphed as months went by into something else. I know a few people who are quite precious about no nicknames but even those people have come up with pet names that they call their children.

I like all these names really apart from Rosie. Maggie Murphy is quite a cool name IMO.
If I could have used Imogen it would definitely have been a front runner.

Maggie Murphy sounds like a detective novel to me Grin not sure if that's good or bad!

I like Imogen best as a name, but Abigail Lynne flows better.

Definitely Abigail it's a classic name that is underused at the moment and Abbey is a lovely nickname

Maggie short for Marguerite. I think it works well for all ages. Lovely name.

@Cookit I don't mind them having pet names I just don't like it when a name gets shortened ... like if her name was Abigail I wouldn't really want her being called Abi.,. I'm chloe and Clo drives me insane 🙈😂

@OchMumItsJustMaBow Peggy was my great grandmothers name - well obviously Margaret but she was always known as Peg / Peggy ... I wouldn't / couldn't use it for my daughter - it just doesn't fit to me. But obviously Maggie would be a tribute but is still lovely on its own.

@MikeUniformMike I don't know I just can't mentally picture a child of school age being called on a register or by a teacher as Maggie. Odd I know.

@MissHenty I'm fine with general nicknames / pet names but I just wouldn't feel "comfortable" with them being called a shortened version of their name by family or friends when they aren't old enough themselves to decide.
I know people would - I mean my name is Chloe and I get called Clo all the time. But if I didn't like it I am old enough to say. But say for example we named her Abigail if everyone started saying oh this is baby Abi I fee I would have to say "no this is Abigail"

I find Maggie, harsh and ugly. It probably doesn’t help that the three I’ve known were/are absolutely horrible women though.

Alice is the best off the list.

I personally think Maggie is horrible and it reminds me of maggots

Alice & Imogen are both beautiful
