Love Iris, Astrid and Tessa! Not v keen on Savannah, feels a bit less classic to me.

DailyFailAreTwats · 26/09/2019 11:12

Oh, and I know a million little Florences at the moment so I feel it's a bit overused.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 26/09/2019 11:31

Astrid appeals a lot. Cool, unusual and suits any age, IMO.

Have only ever met one, and everyone commented on what a lovely name it is!

Lucy also nice, though I find Lucia even more so.

tisonlymeagain · 26/09/2019 12:56

Astrid - Not keen at all, sounds a bit harsh
Lucy - Pretty and classic, quite underused I think
Florence - Very popular at the moment
Halle - Don't like
Savannah - Seems quite 'American' but don't dislike
Tessa - Not keen but could be based on knowing some
Iris - Pretty

VeganVeganVegan · 26/09/2019 12:59

Tessa and Lucy are lovely. The other's are very popular.

Bucatini · 26/09/2019 12:59

My favourite is Tessa - really love this one!
Also love Iris and Lucy.
Astrid and Florence are ok.
Not keen on Halle or Savannah.

alexdgr8 · 26/09/2019 13:18

none of them sound right to me, but I know it's so subjective. but esp for girls, do you really want sky and eden in their given names. they sound comical to me, and pretentious, arty-farty floaty flakey.
what if you daughter wants to be an auditor, or high court judge, or any solid boring highly qualified, highly competitive role, where advancement depends on other, older people's preference.
they might not take her so seriously with these lightweight humourous sounding names.
you are limiting her options, or impeding her progress by these type of names; not every girl will grow up to be an artist, dancer, actor, poet, or have the interest or ability to only work for herself.
many people in established industries/ professions would look askance at all the names you suggest.
that may not be right, or fair, but it is how it is.
I feel to ignore that is taking too narrow a view and being guided too much by your own notion of what you like the sound of, with no regard to how it may affect, cramp, limit your daughter as a grown up.

formerbabe · 26/09/2019 13:21

Love Lucy, Iris and Savannah

Tessa is too dated

Florence is gorgeous but very popular at the moment

Halle looks nicer written down than it sounds iyswim

Astrid is horrendous imo. I always imagine a middle aged woman living in Brighton and wearing tie dyed clothing

Hydrogenbeatsoxygen · 26/09/2019 13:22

Lucy ❤️

alexdgr8 · 26/09/2019 13:23

sorry, don't know what happened, some of these names sound ok, esp iris, lucy, Florence; they all have good pedigrees.
my previous message was a comment meant for another thread on names like macy, miley, etc
my mistake, somehow I've put the comment in the wrong thread.
apologies.

Pixilicious · 26/09/2019 13:26

Astrid - love it
Lucy - very pretty, not overly popular
Florence - ten a penny
Halle - awful
Savannah - even worse than Halle
Tessa - the tosser (sorry)
Iris - lovely

Welshe · 26/09/2019 13:27

Astrid like it
Lucy find it twee and a bit too young for a grown adult
Florence no, hate flo reminds me of flu
Halle not a name to me
Savannah like it!
Tessa horrible and dated
Iris part of an eye

MikeUniformMike · 26/09/2019 13:48

Astrid - nice but makes me think of Astride
Lucy - lovely
Florence - not keen but ok
Halle - no
Savannah - no
Tessa - no but I really like Tess
Iris - not keen but ok

Astronica · 26/09/2019 14:12

I like them all except Halle and Savannah - these 2 are trendy current names, and don't have the substance of the others. And they're popular if you include other spellings of Halle, Hallie etc.
Lucy and Florence are popular, which wouldn't worry me too much but you say popularity matters to you. I do think they are lovely though.
Astrid, Tessa and Iris seem to fit best what you want.

CakeRattleandRoll · 26/09/2019 14:21

Astrid, Tessa or Iris. All three are great choices.

TempsPerdu · 26/09/2019 15:42

Astrid - somehow can’t warm to this even though it’s the style of name I usually like - think it’s the ‘id’ sound at the end.
Lucy - sweet but a bit twee
Florence - ok but incredibly popular
Halle - no, too insubstantial
Savannah - not keen
Tessa - lovely
Iris - v nice but also v of the moment so may date

My pick would be Tessa, maybe Iris at a push.

juicyjuicymangoes · 26/09/2019 15:46

I love Lucy and don't mind Florence and iris. Astrid is a horrible name (sorry!) and Halle I think of as an 80/90s name!

MissHenty · 26/09/2019 15:53

I love the name Lucy and Florence and Iris

Really hate the other names and would not like to have any of them as my own name especially astrid and Halle x

lillywall · 26/09/2019 18:48

Thank you for the comments, it's a shame Florence is so popular because I've loved it for a long time, I was thinking about possibly using it as a middle name instead. I think my favourites are probably Astrid and Tessa. I'm not sure whether to go for Astrid though as much as I love it it feels a little "out there"

OP posts:
lillywall · 26/09/2019 18:49

Maybe that is just because I've never actually met an Astrid

OP posts:
AverageMummy · 26/09/2019 20:51

Astrid - don’t understand the appeal but it’s ok
Lucy - really lovely timeless beautiful classic
Florence - really dislike this
Halle - it’s ok
Savannah - hate this
Tessa - also hate this
Iris - ok

s3tut0y3r · 26/09/2019 21:07

Astrid is only "out there" because it is Norwegian. It is a very pretty name. My name is French, although my parents are not. Having a foreign name gave me a different outlook on life. It can be a very positive thing... think whether it sounds good with your chosen middle name and surname. It's a lovely name

MikeUniformMike · 26/09/2019 21:22

Astrid isn't out there. It's getting quite popular.

Maseandmum · 26/09/2019 21:24

I love Astrid!!

MrsBertBibby · 26/09/2019 22:58

Astrid YES!
Lucy bland. No.
Florence meh
Halle dislike
Savannah NO dreadful
Tessa meh
Iris Very good.
