Really sorry for posting so many threads but this naming malarkey is hard work & I love the brutal honesty I can get here ! Grin

Please let me know what you think of these for a boy. We’d also like a name that doesn’t scream a particular class (any) - are we achieving that?

Rowan
Arthur
Robin
Peter

Jesus, I opened this thread thinking you were going to call your kid "Sorry"
🙄🙄

CassianAndor · 10/09/2019 07:48

Me too!

Rowan.

No idea about class, they all seem classless to me.

ChChChChangez · 10/09/2019 07:53

Rowan — middle class, bit girly
Arthur — grandad chic without the chic
Robin — also a bit effete
Peter — solid boy’s name but not used too much, classless, timeless, would be my pick

QOD · 10/09/2019 07:53

Not Arthur. It’s soooo common as in popular
Robin or Peter or Peter Robin are lovely and unusual in this generation
Rowan is a bit meh

Lavenderblues · 10/09/2019 07:58

I'd be more worried about popularity than 'class' (whatever that is supposed to mean).

I d choose Peter or Robin. Both strong classic names.

Arthur is way too popular imo.

Littlechocola · 10/09/2019 08:00

You have fabulous taste in names.
Peter is my least favourite and I think Robin is my favourite (Hard to choose!).

Missillusioned · 10/09/2019 08:01

I know a man called Robin and people always think he's a woman before meeting him. Especially if they're American.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/09/2019 08:03

Rowan. I like it more for a girl.
Robin. See above.
Arthur. FFS when is this Arthur obsession going to end. It’s not even a cutest old man name or so awful that’s its cute name. Say like Boris for example. Not suggesting you name your baby after BJ. Just giving an example
Peter. Finally I can be positive. Great name

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 10/09/2019 08:06

Peter.

HamWater · 10/09/2019 08:19

I'm going against the grain here, but Arthur is my favourite. I know babies and adults with this name and it suits them all.

AJPTaylor · 10/09/2019 08:20

Out of those Peter. Pete to his friends.

TheWorstWitch11 · 10/09/2019 08:23

Said it before and I'll say it again - Peter. Would be my DS's name if it wasn't already my brother's. Adorable on a baby and grows with them. Classic but not commonly used. Rowan is my fantasy daughter name!

CherryPavlova · 10/09/2019 08:31

Rowan - an archbishop, warm, kind, quirky.
Arthur - secondhand car dealer. Wide boy. Common.
Peter - reliable, traditional, a leader, dependable
Robin - either a December baby or a bit wet. A bit of an outsider.

MikeUniformMike · 10/09/2019 08:32

Peter.
All of them are OK but Peter stands out.
Lots of R names around at the moment and Arthur is a bit popular.

CampfireZen · 10/09/2019 08:32

My 1st vote definitely Rowan

(personally, I think it works equally well for a boy or girl.
I just immediately think 'nature name'.

Love its 'Tree Of Life' connection to Celtic mythology, and what's not to like about courage, wisdom and protection?)

2nd place goes to Robin

Milicentbystander72 · 10/09/2019 08:32

Most definitely Peter. It's a great name and I haven't heard it in years.

howells · 10/09/2019 08:35

Peter. Not keen on any of the others I’m afraid.

TequilaMockingbird0 · 10/09/2019 08:43

I'd pick Rowan as the best from that list although I don't love it. Arthur is really overused I think. Robin and Peter are up there with Thomas in terms of really wet names!

MissHenty · 10/09/2019 08:49

I really like Arthur Robin and Peter

Though I do like Rowan it is very similar to other names which are dramatically rising in popularity of the past couple of years in particular RoMan but also RoHan and RoNan.
The name RoMan is about to enter the top 50 names in the uk and shows no sign of slowing so it depends if you mind being asked “is that RoMan with an M or a W?” (As I’ve heard people asking at my local playgroup). Again, a couple of years ago this wouldn’t have been an issue but it’s only going to get worse because there’s a couple of famous RoMans which I think is driving the names popularity (radio and YouTuber)

I also agree that rowan is quite feminine and also a girls name. Depends if you mind that. I don’t really mind myself.

How about Ralph or Jasper or Otis or Wilfred?

user1493494961 · 10/09/2019 08:54

I would choose Peter.

MissHenty · 10/09/2019 08:56

Arthur is popular already but it’s a classic

Rowan is dramatically increasing in popularity (now well within top 100) and may date very quickly (together with RoMan and RoHan)

Peter and Robin are more rare nowadays but are classics that won’t date

elliex1 · 10/09/2019 09:01

Rowan by far is the nicest

elliex1 · 10/09/2019 09:01

Imho of course :)

Astronica · 10/09/2019 09:02

I like Arthur and Peter best. Arthur is stylish right now and Peter is more low-key and traditional. I've known so many Robin/Robyns as girls I just can't picture it on a boy, though Robin and Rowan are both okay.
