Last minute name doubt!

I was set on the name Seren if baby turns out to be a girl but now having last minute doubts! We live in England and have no obvious welsh connection. I doubt family/ friends have heard of the name Seren before.I guess I am worried about reactions and crazy pronunciations... I had been thinking about this name before baby was conceived but now not so sure.. Is this the hormones?

I am having similar doubts about one of the boys names I had previously loved! Argh!

I love the name Seren, and know a non-Welsh one. It's a lovely name and it's not difficult to spell or pronounce.

Rainbowqueeen · 10/09/2019 07:41

Agreed. Lovely lovely name

AverageMummy · 10/09/2019 07:42

I’ll be honest I don’t know how to pronounce it but I wouldn’t avoid it - it looks lovely & people will only need to be told once

Hobbitbobbit · 10/09/2019 07:52

I've met a Seren at a baby club a few years ago, really liked the name and didn't even realise it was Welsh. Definitely use it, it's lovely

ChChChChangez · 10/09/2019 07:54

I don’t like it personally but it’s your choice. It certainly gets mentioned on here a lot.

sorrythisusernameistaken · 10/09/2019 07:54

It's beautiful!

SoupDragon · 10/09/2019 07:56

It's not hard to pronounce at all. It sometimes gets misheard as Sarah as people tend to "hear" a name they recognise IYSWIM.

MildThing · 10/09/2019 08:03

It’s lovely.

Looking at it I thought it might be a Scandi name.

Presume pronounced Serren?

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 10/09/2019 08:03

Love Seren!

Morado · 10/09/2019 08:31

I chose my daughters name before she was born and told the midwifes during my labour. When they would refer to the baby as her name it made me panic because it was all the more real and I suddenly wondered if I was so sure after all! Anyway the moment she was born I knew it was the right name for her and now I love it more than ever 😍

Your family will just be happy that your baby is here and well 😊

MikeUniformMike · 10/09/2019 08:37

It's awful. It's a name that will date quickly.
It is just the welsh word for star.
The Serrun pronunciation makes me think of Sharon and Shannon.
The welsh word is pronounced SERR-enn.

CampfireZen · 10/09/2019 08:41

Nice!

elliex1 · 10/09/2019 08:59

It’s pretty. Not welsh at all but I would just pronounce it it’s written - serr-un.

elliex1 · 10/09/2019 09:00

*as it’s written !

Frangible · 10/09/2019 09:08

I like it, although all the Serens I know, if not Welsh, have some Welsh connection.

bridgetreilly · 10/09/2019 09:31

I don't like it, personally. Seraphina or Serenity or good old-fashioned Sarah?

bridgetreilly · 10/09/2019 09:31

Oh, and Stella, of course. I really like that.

Nonameyet1 · 10/09/2019 20:02

Seren is a lovely name.

Morado · 10/09/2019 20:23

@MikeUniformMike

I disagree and this chart shows that it's peak was about 6 years ago....

Last minute name doubt!

Thank you for the messages :) I really loved it from the first time I heard it so it feels weird that I am having doubts now.

Really sorry but I don't like it. It's hard to know how to pronounce it. As someone with an Italian name (I'm English) I found it very annoying growing up when no one could say it properly

Tillygetsit · 10/09/2019 22:48

I think its beautiful. Love Merryn too.

DramaAlpaca · 11/09/2019 01:28

It's nice. I prefer it pronounced the proper Welsh way, but it's a pretty name whichever way.

Frangible · 11/09/2019 07:15

@DramaAlpaca, could you try to write how to pronounce it the proper Welsh way? All I gather is that it’s NOT ‘SERR-un with a schwa for the second syllable.

Is it more ‘Seren’ with both syllables equally stressed and both with a definite ‘e’ sound (the ‘e’ of ‘get’?)?

Peanutbuttericecream · 11/09/2019 07:20

I hate it, sorry.
