Got a feeling this might divide mumsnet! Grin My husband suggested it. I like it but it's unusual and wonder what people think of it?

Am I the only person who remembers the hideous car Austin Allegra?

AverageMummy · 09/09/2019 15:58

I think it’s ok

Shopkinsdoll · 09/09/2019 16:02

Oh no! Please don’t. They was my sisters first car. A rusty old Allegra

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/09/2019 16:03

What does horsey mean

ViserionTheDragon · 09/09/2019 16:05

It's an Italian name and a lovely one at that. I don't think it's horsey at all!

dootball · 09/09/2019 16:07

I'd go for algebra!

msmith501 · 09/09/2019 16:10

My parents used to drive a Vauxhall Allegra... piece of crap - it's a nice name though! Wenknkw a Greek woman called Allegrina ... also a nice name

Rayna37 · 09/09/2019 16:10

I love it and had it pencilled in for a middle name; wouldn't have wanted it to be shortened to Ally which I felt was a risk. Also possibly a bit marmite.

campion · 09/09/2019 16:11

It was Austin Allegro.

Allegra's a perfectly nice name for a girl. A bit classy.

Orangeleavez · 09/09/2019 16:12

So I knew it would divide MN! Its one of those marmite names I guess.
I don't know the Austin Allegra association but will have a Google. I suppose I have no association for the name hence why I like it.

Every single name is loved by some and disliked by others- thankfully we all have different tastes!

campion · 09/09/2019 16:14

Like I saidWink

Orangeleavez · 09/09/2019 16:36

Lavenderblues so true! I know my taste in names will horrify some and others will love it.
Unless you play it really safe and even then everyone has an opinion x

WelshCountryBumpkin · 09/09/2019 16:39

I love it, but having a more unusual name myself I have a soft spot for them! I also love the name Allegria which means Happiness

Daffodildainty · 09/09/2019 16:47

Lovely and sophisticated x

msmith501 · 09/09/2019 16:51

You're right it was an Austin ... still was a crap car

Orangeleavez · 09/09/2019 17:10

How does Allegra rhyme with Viagra?? Hmm
It's a beautiful name

NoSauce · 09/09/2019 17:30

Yes it’s great. Love Leggy as a nn.

NameChange84 · 09/09/2019 17:31

How does Allegra rhyme with Viagra??

Exactly. It really, really doesn’t. Unless Viagra is pronounced Valegra or Allegra is pronounced Aiagra...Angry it was a very silly comment.

Lindy2 · 09/09/2019 17:37

I know a little Allegra. She's very confident and bubbly and the name suits her perfectly.

1ToughCookie · 09/09/2019 17:52

When you said it'd divide MN, I thought you were asking if it was ok to take Allegra for allergies. Then I noticed the category. It happens I used to like the name before it got ruined by drug commercials.

Your kid will be fine unless they go to the States. Then everyone would wonder why you were such a fan.
