My DH and I are excited to welcome our fist child next year. We don't know the gender yet so have narrowed names down to three choices for boy or girl each.

Would appreciate opinions and votes names! We just can't seem to pick a clear winner

Girls:

  1. Élodie
  2. Clara
  3. Amélie

Boys:

  1. Theo
  2. Felix
  3. Jasper

congratulations! i love clara for a girl and jasper for a boy x

Why the accent in the names, not needed and a pain in the arse.
Aside from that, they are all nice. Favourites would be Clara and Felix.

@sleepismysuperpower1 thanks!

@Kublai thanks for your input. I have french heritage so those are french names hence accents. Xx

All your names are great!

I adore Elodie though (sorry, can't find the accent on my phone). Would Theo be pronounced Tay-o in French? Sorry, my French is a bit rusty. Grin Might be worth considering, if you want the same (or similar) pronunciation in both languages.

firsttimemum55 · 01/09/2019 18:41

@finallychangedmyusername thank you! It's so tough they're all great names.

The boys names would be English versions only to avoid controversy. My family has in my opinion over used two key boys french names; François and René, there are 7 in my immediate family and if I went for a french boys name that wasn't one of those I would be ostracised 🙈🙈🙈

I like Amelia or Clara and Theo.

17caterpillars1mouse · 01/09/2019 19:51

Amelie and Jasper

Please no more Theo's (lighthearted but seriously they are everywhere)

Biscuitsneeded · 01/09/2019 19:54

Loads of Amelies around here who are 10 - 15 years old - maybe because of the film? Clara is lovely. Felix and Jasper are a bit posh for me so would have to be Theo I think - which is lovely (and I have a Theo and he's the only one in his secondary school as far as he knows.)

Peachbubble · 01/09/2019 20:03

Clara and Felix

Parsley65 · 01/09/2019 20:06

Clara and Felix are fabulous names!

daisypond · 01/09/2019 20:08

I like all your boys’ names - I like Theo but it’s popular now, which puts me off. I would go for Jasper.
I’d probably go for Clara for a girl but I do think it’s about ten years out of date. Amelie is downmarket to me in the UK.
Elodie is a bit better but bland.

Sparklysunflower · 01/09/2019 20:26

Clara and Jasper!

Theo is too popular and Felix is a brand of cat food 🐈

DramaAlpaca · 01/09/2019 20:29

Elodie or Jasper for me.

Clara or Theo would be my second choice.

Amelie is only nice in a French accent (sorry but can't do the accent on my tablet) & I'm not keen on Felix.

firsttimemum55 · 01/09/2019 20:36

Thanks everyone. Interesting feedback so far. We didn't think about the movie Amélie when choosing names though it did make it popular at the time.

I'm starting to lean towards Élodie but still undecided about boys name.

I had originally intended to use my mums name for middle name for girl which is Monique but not sure it really goes with any of the names so that's another name to hunt for lol.

Clara or Jasper for me - lovely choices.

EssexSexpot · 01/09/2019 20:48

I like all your boys names, they're lovely. Favourite is probably Felix.

Do either you or your husband come from France? If so, I like Elodie. If not, I think that Elodie and Amelie with an accent are both pretentious.

Amelie without the accent is nice, but it's the second most popular name in the UK at the moment - that's only an issue if it bothers you though!

I really like Clara, it's lovely.

EssexSexpot · 01/09/2019 20:48

Oh sorry, I'm an idiot - missed your post about french heritage! In that case I would pick Elodie.

userabcname · 01/09/2019 20:54

Élodie and Felix get my vote.

burberrybubbles · 01/09/2019 20:54

Clara and Jasper

MamaFlintstone · 01/09/2019 20:56

Clara and Felix are my favourites

AverageMummy · 01/09/2019 21:04

I love Clara but I have one so am probably a tad biased! Elodie is also really lovely.

Jasper means wasp where I live so I think Felix is my favourite. Plus Felix is really cute.

Herefortheduration · 01/09/2019 21:09

Clara and Felix
