Ross, Fraser, Callum, or none of the above?

I'm trying to find a name that is a little less heard. What are your impressions of Ross, Fraser, and Callum? Would you choose any of these names to be paired with Arthur?

Calum is lovely. Malcolm is English for Calum.
Donald
Sorley
Lachlan
Hamish
Finbar

Wasn't Callum really popular at one point? I wouldn't say it was less heard. Fraser would be my choice of those but there are lots of other Scottish names that are less popular. Also, it doesn't go with Arthur.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/08/2019 10:32

If they were the only 3 names in the world I’d go with Ross, but. I wouldn’t put any of those with Arthur.

Antonin · 29/08/2019 10:33

I like all 3 names and none clash with Arthur because all 4 names have been in use for centuries. Arthur is thought of as being English but was very popular in Scotland in times past.
Do you like Craig?
Finley
Bruce

Ross was our choice if we were having a boy. But we're having a girl and have no names at all Grin

Spoonsmum · 29/08/2019 10:38

Fraser is an excellent name :)

Celebelly · 29/08/2019 10:44

I like Fraser. That was on our list for a boy.

Angus? Calder? Ruaridh? Brodie?

ThePhoenixRises · 29/08/2019 10:46

Love the name Fraser, have only even met one in my 40 years and he must be around 40 years old now too.

Peachbubble · 29/08/2019 10:47

Fraser would be my choice

RolyWatts · 29/08/2019 10:50

Callum is done to death up here in Scotland. Its like calling your kid John. Just meh. Ross is a great name. Bit my favourite is Frazer. I've never met a Frazer I didn't like. If it's Scottish your after my all time fave is Sorley. Also depends on the surname. With an A as a middle name, there is scope for crap initials.

daisypond · 29/08/2019 10:51

I like them all, but I would go for Fraser. I’d spell Calum with one L if you want the Scottish spelling.

museumum · 29/08/2019 10:51

Calum with one L in Scotland.
Double L is Anglicised, but more popular.

Mrsjayy · 29/08/2019 10:55

Ross was our choice if we were having a boy. But we're having a girl and have no names at all grin

Rosslyn obviously Grin

I prefer Ross out of your list Op but I don't think any of them "go" with Arthur

Sophronia · 29/08/2019 11:47

I like Ross

Changedname81 · 29/08/2019 12:27

I have a 4 year old Callum. The only other one we've met is 15! I love it. My criteria when choosing a name were: not so popular he'd be one of several in a class, not so unusual as to be "weird", no horrible nicknames (I can only think of Cal and that's pretty cool), initials don't spell anything bad. And of course I had to actually like it. Mumnet seems to think it's a naughty boy name though!

I have a ten week old baby now and he's called Zachary. I think it fits the same criteria. Callum is definitely my favourite from your list, followed by Fraser.

milliefiori · 29/08/2019 13:10

Arthur and Hamish sound great together.
I like Callum.

RubbingHimSourly · 29/08/2019 13:12

Absolutely love Fraser.

reginafelangee · 29/08/2019 13:16

All three are excellent, good, traditional Scottish names. My first preference is Calum but you won't go wrong with any of them.

weebarra · 29/08/2019 13:22

I like Calum rather than Callum.
I have an Alasdair. Also quite like Fraser. DS1s middle name is Ross which is a family name.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 29/08/2019 15:57

Perhaps I should have said Malcolm is an accepted anglicisation of of Calum. Though not a literal translation. St Columba is the root of both names.

I have a callum, he's 21

MoederVanEen · 29/08/2019 16:00

How about Calvin?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 29/08/2019 16:05

Love Fraser!
